GENTLEMEN,
PERMIT me to acquaint you that the Election of Verderer of the New Forest cannot take place before the 1st of April, and at the same time to express my sincere regret at this unexpected delay (owing to the intervention of the Assizes), as it lays me under an absolute necessity of apologising for my probable absence upon the day of election, the situation of my family requiring my previous return to them, and allowing me opportunity only for very limited application in person to you, for the honour of your support upon this occasion : I rely upon the favourable view many of my friends take of this step, tending to my speedy return to residence in the Forest, and flatter myself that it may not operate to my prejudice, in the attainment of the object of my ambition, which will confer a lasting obligation upon,
GENTLEMEN,
Your obedient humble servant, HENRY COMBE COMPTON.
