Wanted, - A good Plain Cook, in a small Family, where no kitchen maid is kept.

Wanted, in a Gentleman's Family, - A steady, Person, as Housemaid, who thoroughly understands her business, and can be well recommended. - Apply to Mr.White, Winckton, near Christchurch.




Wanted, to live in the country, - A steady, careful Coachman, who perfectly understands the driving of a pair of horses. He must have an unexceptional character, particularly as to sobriety and honesty. Good wages will be given. He is expected to wait at table. Enquire at Mr.Bigg's, mercer, Blandford.




Wants a Situation, - A young Man, as Game or Park-Keeper, who is a good shot, well understands destroying vermin, and is capable of breaking dogs; can come well recommended from his last situation.- Letters (post-paid) addressed E.L. Winchester.
Saturday, November 13.


The 20th Anniversary of the Christchurch Agricultural Society was held at Christchurch on the 1st of November instant, and was remarkably well attended by the gentlemen and principal farmers of the neighbourhood, when their much respected founder, the Rev.James Willis, was elected President the twentieth time, and Geo.R.Eyres, Esq. of Beech House, Vice President, in the room of Wm.Mills, Esq. of Bistern (by ballot), for the year ensuing. The Hon.Colonel Parker, Rob.Heathcote, Esq., Geo.R.Eyres, Esq., John Griffiths, of Belvidere House, Esq., George Eyre, of Warrens, Esq., Stephen Lancaster, Esq., John Goddard, Esq., Captain William Jackson, and several other new members, honoured the society with their first visit. Near fifty sat down to an excellent dinner at the George Inn, and spent the evening with the utmost harmony and conviviality.

Mr.Mills, the Vice President's silver cup, was gained by Mr.John Tuck, of Avon, for the best crop of Turnips; the Society's prize of 5 guineas, by Geo.H.Rose, Esq. for the second best; A.Daw, Esq. the third best; and Mr.Charles Hicks, the fourth.
The Cattle Premiums, &c. were awarded as follows : To Mr.Mills, V.P. for the best 3 yr. old Bull; Mr.Jackson, sen. the best 2yr. old ditto; Mr.Ed.Hopkins, the best 1yr. old ditto. - Mr.Mills received all the different premiums for South Down Sheep; Mr.Trim, for the best 6 tooth Merino Ram; Mr.G.H.Rose, for the best 4 tooth ditto; Mr.Willis, the President, for the best five 6 tooth Merino Ewes; Mr.Willis also, for the best five 4 tooth ditto :- Mr.Hunt, the best premium for an Essex Boar; Mr.Spicer, the second premium for a Leicester ditto; Mr.Ambrose Daw, for the best Sow; Mr.Anthony Daw, for the second ditto.
Mr.Mills was also awarded the premium for the best Pen of Wethers, South Downs; and Mr.Willis, the second best, Merinos; but on killing one of each, the Merino turned out the best, both in proof and colour of flesh; weight and age of both, as under :-

The South Down, full mouthed, 82lbs, inside fat 8 3/4lbs.
The Merino, (5th Cross on Ryland), 6 tooth, 71lb, inside fat 9 1/2lbs.

The unanimous thanks of the Society were voted to the President and Vice President; to George H.Rose, Esq. for his introduction of the Hainault Scythe; to C.H.Hunt, Esq. who accepted the office of principal Secretary; and to Richard Norris, of Basing Park, Esq. who having presented the Society with four Cups, was made an honorary member for life.




Thursday was married, at St.Cross, Mr.Allen, of Warnford, to Maria, youngest daughter of Mr.Burcher, miller, of the same place.

Capt.Bogue, who commanded the British Rocket brigade in Germany, and was killed in the ever memorable battle of the 18th of October, near Leipsic, was son of the late Dr.John Bogue, of Fareham in this county.- He has left a disconsolate widow and two infant children to deplore their irreparable loss of the best of husbands and of fathers.

On Saturday the 6th inst.died, at Andover, where he was prisoner of war, on parole, Michael Marie Coie, a French Marine Officer.- The second battalion of the 5th regiment of foot happening to be on their march through the town on the 9th, in their route to Chelmsford, their Commanding Officer, Capt.Boyle, most handsomely volunteered to attend at his funeral. The procession commenced with a select body of the military, accompanied by their very superior band, playing the Dead March in Saul, preceding the corpse, which was followed by the whole of the French Officers on parole as chief mourners, attended by the remaining part of the battalion closing with their Officers. The funeral service was read in a most impressive manner by the Rev.William Pedder, and concluded with three vollies over the grave. The attention paid to the remains of this Gentleman by those very heroes who so lately contributed to his capture, appeared to be most gratefully felt by the French Officers, and excited the most lively enthusiasm in the breasts of the inhabitants for their gallant defenders.

Friday se'nnight died, at Lymington, in the prime of life, Mrs.Figg, wife of Mr.Henry Figg, plumber and glazier.
Monday evening died, Mrs.Barker, relict of the late Alderman Barker, of this city.
A few days since died, Mrs.Banister, wife of Mr.Banister, haberdasher, of this city.




Southampton, Nov.13.

Webber's bill of fare drew a crowded house to his benefit on Monday last : the evening's entertainment was interspersed with a variety of songs, some of which were sung in good style by Webber.

The Marquis and Marchioness of Lansdowne are entertaining a large party of fashionables, at their beautiful seat , Bowood, near Calne, in this county.

The Rev.Dr.Mairis, Chaplain to the Duke of Kent, and Rector of St.Peter's, Wallingford, has been instituted by the Bishop of Salisbury, to the Vicarage of West Lavington, in this county.

The Match at Single-stick, which was played in our Market-Place on Wednesday last, drew a large concourse of people from all parts of the country, although the weather was very unfavourable; but the play did not afford that treat to the Amateur which had been anticipated. The Prizes were easily won by the Somerset players, but had not some of our Wiltshire men forgotten their promises to attend, they would no doubt have been well contested, and, from the courage and skill of both parties, it would have been difficult to say which would have been the victors.

On the 31st of October, at the Rectory, Chilmark, the Lady of the Hon.and Rev.Alfred Harris, of a son.- Wednesday last at Ivy Church, the Lady of the Rev.Edward Duke, of Lake House, near Amesbury, of a daughter.- Same day, the Lady of Capt.Hancock, R.N. of this city, of a daughter.- Same day, at Blandford, the Lady of Major Still, of the Dorset Regiment, of a daughter. - Thursday, at Farnham, Dorset, the Lady of A.M.Mills, Esq. of a son.

On Saturday se'nnight was married Mr.Holloway, builder of Devizes, to Miss N.Smith, daughter of the late Mrs.Smith, of that place.
On Wednesday last was married, at Winfrith, Dorset, by the Rev.Mr.Payne, Mr.James Talbot, of East Burton, to Mary youngest daughter of Mr.Richard Talbot, an opulent farmer of the same place.
A few days since was married, at Winterbourne Stoke, in this county, Mr.B.Loader, mercer, of Barnstaple, Devon, to Miss Kellow, daughter of the late Mr.Kellow, of the former place.

On Saturday the 6th inst.died, at Rowden Hill, near Chippenham, Mrs.Meryweather, relict of J.Meryweather, Esq. of Freshford, near Bath.
On Saturday se'nnight died Mrs.Armstrong, wife of Mr.C.Armstrong, banker, Warminster.




Poole, Nov. 12.

Mr.Smith and his Musical family have given us a treat, and were received with every mark of approbation, for three night, at the Town-Hall, last week.

Last Wednesday evening died suddenly, at Studland, in the county of Dorset, Francis Fane, Esq.





The Assignees of Estate and Effects of John Webb, of New Sarum, brandy merchant, who hath been lately declared a Bankrupt, have appointed the said John Webb to collect the debts due to such Estate : Notice is hereby given that his Receipts will be effectual discharges for the same.




Missent, or Wilfully Detained.

Whereas a Parcel was booked at the Coach-Office, Ringwood, Hants, on Thursday the 4th day of November instant, directed to Mr.Beaven, Worton, near Devizes, Wilts, with directions to go by Mail to and taken from Devizes by Messenger - The Parcel is not arrived : Compensation will be made to the person delivering the parcel agreeable to the directions; but if wilfully detained (upon proof thereof made) a reward of Five Guineas will be paid by Mr.Broome or Mr.Beaven.

N.B. The parcel contains Deeds and Papers of consequence only to whom they relate.
Ringwood, Nov.14, 1813.




Found at the White Hart, Hook, on Saturday the 30th ult.- A dark bay Gelding, about 15 hands and a half high, rising five years old, star in the forehead; appears to have been stolen having been rode without shoes till his feet are worn to the quick. - Apply to J.Waterman, White Hart, Hook, near Odiham, Hants.




To be Sold by Auction, on Wednesday the 8th day of December next, (unless disposed of in the mean time by Private Contract), at the Public House in Urchfont, in the county of Wilts, at three o'clock in the afternoon, - All that desirable Close and Arable Land, called Nopsey's, with the hanging to the same belonging, planted with apple trees; containing the whole about 7 1/2 acres, for the natural lives of Mr.Humphrey Giddings, and Mr.Mark Giddings, his son, without impeachment of waste. The person who lives in the house will shew the premises; and to treat for the same apply to Mr.Attwood, at the Bugle Inn, Titchfield, on Tuesday the 23d of November instant, at four o'clock.




Elm Timber
At Pottern, Near Devizes, Wilts.

To be Sold by Private Contract, at the Upper Organ Inn, Pottern, on Saturday the 4th of December, 1813, at four o'clock, (together or in lots, for the convenience of Carpenters, Wheelwrights, and others), viz. - 185 Elm Timber Trees, (about 192 tons), many of which are good Plank Stocks and Pump Trees, with the Lops and Tops thereof, now standing and numerically marked with white paint, in the Manor of Pottern. - Also 74 Elms, 1 Sycamore, and 11 Pollards, standing and marked on Hurst Farm, near Pottern.

The first twenty lots are situate about a mile from the Kennet and Avon Canal, near Devizes.- Printed particulars may be had of Messrs.Webb, Webb, and Attwood of Devizes; and of Mr.Benjamin Glass, Worton; also Mr.Moses Glass, Pottern, who will shew the timber.
