The 47th anniversary of the Salisbury Infirmary was held on Wednesday last, on which day the Rev.R.Morres (who was appointed President for the day, in the absence of the Earl of Radnor) and many of the Governors assembled at the Council Chamber, where they were met by the Worshipful the Mayor and Aldermen of the City; from thence they went in procession to the Cathedral, where an excellent sermon was preached by the Rev.John Fisher, and an anthem composed by Mr.Corfe was performed by the gentlemen of the choir. After the service a collection was made, as usual, at the door. The procession then returned to the Council Chamber, where an account was taken of the money collected, which was handed over to the treasurer, George Baker, Esq.; it amounted to 80 5s. 1 1/2d. The auditors report was read at the Spread Eagle, where the Governors again assembled at three. The report stated that many patients had been sent to the Infirmary whose complaints had proved to be incurable, and that such a system, if pursued, would be seriously detrimental to the institution, particularly at a moment when the annual subscriptions were not equal to expenditure. It pointed out to the Governors the propriety of making all the necessary enquires respecting the nature of the patient's malady, before a recommendation was given; and concluded by a rational appeal to the overseers of parishes, to increase their parish subscriptions. After the report was read, the Governors sat down to dinner; a buck was presented to them on the occasion by the noble President; the dinner was well dressed and admirably served up, and the remainder of the day was spent in cheerfulness and conviviality. Amongst the company present were the Bishop of Salisbury, the Dean, the Reverends Mr.Archdeacon Coxe, Dr.Hawes, Mr.John Fisher, &c. &c.
