Some Selected Reports from The Windsor and Eton Express

10th June 1837

Theatre Royal, Windsor

The theatre in Windsor has been opened this week for the amusement of the visitors to the races, and we are glad to be able to say that the attendance has been exceedingly good each evening. "Jim Crow" has been the standard piece for the week, and it has proved very successful, the manner in which Mr.Dunn personated the hero of the piece having afforded the highest gratification to the audience. The acting of Mr.Moulton, Mr.Loveday, Mr.Williams, Mrs.Loveday, Miss Crisp, and Miss C.Crisp, also gave the utmost satisfaction.

Egham, June 9.

During the night of Sunday last, or early on Monday morning, some evil disposed person or persons entered the field of Mr.James Perkins, at the back of Heath Lodge, Bishopsgate, and chopped off the manes and tails of four horses. Mr.Perkins has offered a reward of 5 on conviction of the offenders.

Henley, June 9.
Horticultural Show

On Wednesday the second Horticultural Show for Henley and the neighbourhood was held at the Town hall, and although we have before had occasion to remark the increasing importance and popularity of this valuable society, we feel called on to express the gratification which the present exhibition, so much superior in extent and beauty to any former one, has caused us. The display of the various productions was of the most splendid description, and excited great admiration in one of the most elegant and crowded assemblages which our hall has ever boasted. The collection of tulips, calceolarias and geraniums were of the finest description, and amongst the single plants we noticed some magnificent cacti, marcum splendens, lemon trees, &c. The bouquets of greenhouses and hardy flowers were very numerous; we may mention that of greenhouse flowers sent by Miss Stapleton, of Grays-court, as being one of the most elegant we ever remember to have seen. The cottagers table fully maintained its high character. Prizes were awarded as follows :-
