Some Selected Reports from The Windsor and Eton Express

16th December 1837

The Wandering Piper.- On reference to our advertising columns, it will be seen that the eccentric but benevolent gentleman who has for a long period obtained the soubriquet of the "Wandering Piper." will, by the kind permission of the Mayor of Windsor, perform at the Town-hall on Monday evening next. We have had an opportunity of inspecting the books of Mr.Stuart, the "piper" in question. from which it appears that his "wanderings" have been productive of great benefit to various public institutions; and as the proceeds of his performances are generously given in charity, we hope he will have a good audience. The "Wandering Piper" paid a visit to Windsor some years ago, since when he has been on his travels, and at every town has left behind him substantial proofs of of the benevolence of his disposition. We have good reason to believe that the public of Windsor and its neighbourhood will rejoice at the opportunity afforded them to attend his concert, if we may so designate it , at a small cost, for although he very justly considers all proceeds as his own property, he does not fail in carrying out the object with which he started on his singular campaign - viz the administering to charitable institutions and to objects of charity generally.

Dinner at Slough.- Mrs.Luff, the deserving landlady of the White Hart, Slough, has announced that her annual dinner will take place on Tuesday next, and as it not her intention to have pigeon shooting this year, or the dinner after it, we hope to find a strong muster of her friends at the dinner on Tuesday.

Mutual Improvement Society.- Dr.Epps delivered his eighth lecture for the benefit of this Society last night. This lecture was stated to be the Doctor's last, but he has announced to deliver his final lecture on Friday next. The next lecturer is Mr.W.B.Byng, of Staines, who has kindly consented to deliver a gratuitous lecture on Coal Gas, which will be illustrated by a variety of experiments.
