Upon further enquiry, it was found that some hair had been sold by the prisoner to a tradesman in Windsor. The prisoner has sold hair at various times to the same shopman and said it formed part of his perquisites for cleaning the mattresses at Eton College. Mr.Sheriff, the governor of the gaol stated that he was present when Edmund Swain was brought up for trial for stealing hair; he pleaded guilty to the charge, and was sentenced to one months imprisonment and to be privately whipped.
