Lectures on Scripture History - On Wednesday evening the Rev. Mr. Stoughton delivered his second lecture, at William-street Chapel, on Scripture History. The audience was very numerous and highly respectable, all of whom appeared much gratified at the details into which the Reverend Gentleman entered. This lecture concluded the history of the first three centuries, during which were some of the earliest martyrdoms. The next lecture was announced to take place about the middle of June.

On reference to our advertising columns it will be seen that the French Establishment in Eton, conducted by Mr.Bloom, will finally close on Saturday next, when it will be removed to Brighton. We would therefore advise those of the public, who have not hitherto inspected the elegant assortment of goods there displayed, not to lose the opportunity which the shortness of time allows them to pay the establishment a visit.

Temperance Society Meeting - Yesterday meetings were held at the Town Hall in the morning and evening, at which several advocates of the temperance system addressed numerous audiences in favour of the object they have in view.

Windsor Police - On Monday a man named Martin Thorn, was charged before the Magistrates with stealing a tarpaulin, the property of Mr. Hollis, builder. The prisoner, who is a stranger in Windsor, was stopped by a policeman, carrying a large sack, which, on being examined, was found to contain a tarpaulin (which proved to have been stolen from the brewery in the New Road, now building by Mr. Hollis), and several pieces of brown Holland cloth, similar to those used in folding clothes in mangling. The sack was marked "E.Prier, Horslydown". The prisoner stated that he belonged to Bishopsgate parish, in London, but he had for some time past slept in carts, barns, &c, and had not been in a bed for a long time.
He was remanded.
