Sudden Death

- On Sunday morning a man named Charles Pearce, a journeyman bricklayer, went into the Union public-house, in High Street, in a bad state of health, and much fatigued, having been out all the preceding night, and after having some gin and beer to drink, fell asleep. He laid on the seat until between four and five o'clock in the afternoon, when he fell on the ground, and it was found he was dead. Mr. Stevens, the surgeon, was immediately sent for, when it was found that his death was caused by apoplexy. An Inquest was held on the body on Monday, and a verdict returned of "Died by the visitation of God."
