Evening Service at Windsor Church

Many of the inhabitants of Windsor have for some length of time past expressed a wish for the performance of Divine Service at the Parish Church, on the sabbath evening, and by the strenuous exertions of one or two individuals for the attainment of the same, added to the unspeakable liberality of a clergyman resident in Eton, we feel great pleasure in informing our townsmen that there is now no doubt but the object will be carried into effect. The following is the copy of a handbill which has been distributed in the town during the week, calling a meeting of the inhabitants on Monday next :- "The Rev.Isaac Gosset having given his perfect concurrence to the establishment of an Evening Service, at the Parish Church, on Sunday, in addition to the usual services of the day - the inhabitants are requested to meet at the Town-hall, on Monday next, the 30th inst., at one o'clock precisely, to confirm the same into effect. Signed, Robt.Blunt, Mayor, Chairman of the Committee."

The Match for Monday Next

The avidity with which all offers have been taken by the friends of the Windsor and Eton Club for the match on Monday next, has been the means of reducing the odds from 7, to 5 to 4, - in many instances even bets have been made, - and the affair, from the amount of the stakes and heavy sums pending the event, excites great interest in this town and neighbourhood and also at Walworth. The match taking place in the Brocas, is looked upon as favourable to the Junior Club, who are upon exceedingly good terms with themselves, full of confidence, and play well together. The wickets are to be pitched at 10 o'clock, and the following are the players on the part of Windsor and Eton:- Messrs.Kellner, J.Cleave, Sedding, Goodchild, G.H.Lawrence, Capes, Byles, Crook, Weight, Vaughan, and Burrett.

Chobham

The Rev.Chas.Jerram preached his farewell sermon, in the parish church at Chobham, on Sunday last, from 1 Cor., xv., verses 1 and 2. Mr.Jerram has performed the duties of a vicar in that place in a very exemplary manner for twenty-nine years, and is now about to engage in a more arduous duty at Witney, having been presented to that rectory. The people at Witney will gain in him a very eloquent and learned scholar and a faithful minister.
