A few days ago an inquest was held at the Crown public-house, Birches-green, before Mr.May, coroner for Berks, on the body of Thomas Neale, a sawyer in the employ of East Clayton East, Esq., of Hall-place. It appeared in evidence that the deceased had gone in the above public-house after his usual labour and called for a half pint of beer, which he drank, when he fell from his seat and instantly expired. Verdict - "Died by the Visitation of God."

Robbery

On Tuesday evening last, as an apprentice of Messrs. Boorn and Sparrow, grocers of this town by the name of Horn, was returning from his usual round in a pony cart, he was stopped in Littleton-lane by a man who jumped up behind the cart and gave him a blow on the head which nearly stunned him; the ruffian then threatened to kill him if he made any resistance, a commenced searching his pockets, from one he took two pocket books, a sixpence, and a few trifling articles; but the thief fortunately missed a pocket which contained a considerable sum of money; Horn, who is a youth of only about 14 years of age, thinks he could recognise the man, who had on a fustian jacket.

Last Tuesday night a lamb was stolen from the field of Martin Mangles, Esq., St.Anne's Villa; the skin was found in a hay stack adjoining. The Chertsey Union Society for the prosecution of felons has offered a reward of 10 on conviction of the offender or offenders.

Staines, Dec 30.

On Friday last Mr.Henry Kendon, instructor of dancing to the Royal Family, had a ball at the Bush and Clarence Hotel in this town, which was attended by about 100 persons, among whom were nearly all the rank and fashion of this vicinity. The quadrilles Elixir d'Amour, and the Huguenots were much admired. Weippert's band attended, and dancing was kept up until a very late, or rather early hour. We understand it is Mr.H.Kendon's intention to give another ball at Easter.
