Some Selected Reports from The Windsor and Eton Express
9th December 1837
About nine o'clock on Thursday morning a fire was discovered in the drawing room of Lord Sefton's residence in Arlington-street. The county and the parish engines were
quickly brought to the spot, and after the firemen had laboured some hours the danger was subdued. The fire, it appeared, originated in the fire-place in the saloon of the Marquis of
Salisbury's whose residence adjoins that of Lord Sefton's. The damage was principally confined to the flooring and wood-work of the drawing room and the library ceiling.
