Some Selected Reports from The Windsor and Eton Express

9th September 1837

The Windsor and Eton Royal Horticultural Show it will be seen by an advertisement in another part of our paper, will take place on Friday next in the grounds of Capt.Bulkeley, at Spital. Last year, by the kindness of Her Royal Highness, the Princess Augusta, the show was held in the grounds attached to Her Royal Highness's residence at Frogmore, and it would have been held there this year but the recent death of his late Majesty forbad the use of the grounds for such a purpose at present. Her Royal Highness has taken a lively interest in the success of this, as indeed she does in every institution in the town.

On Wednesday the Englefield Green Horticultural Show took place in the National School-room. The exhibition of flowers was excellent, especially that of a beautiful seedling belonging to Mr.Bragg, of Windsor, which was very highly and justly admired. The prizes were awarded as follows :

Open show, 24 blooms - 1 Mr.Cooper, Bray, 2 Mr.Skelton, Eton, 3 Mr.Dodd, Clifden.
Gentlemen gardeners and amateurs (12 blooms) - 1 Mr.Cooper, Bray, 2 Mr.Skelton, Eton, 3 Mr.Bragg, Windsor, 4 Mr.Woodham, Bray.
Show of 24 blooms, limited to parishes of Egham, Thorpe, Old Windsor, and Englefield Green - 1 Mr.Roane, Thorpe.
Twelve blooms ditto - 1 Mr.Challis, Egham, 2 Mr.Begbie, Thorpe, 4 Mr.Vyne, 5 Mr.Fernie, Egham.
Six blooms ditto, 1 Mr.Roake, 2 Mr.Begbie, 3 Mr.Challis. Heartsease - Mr.Lovegrove 1 and 2.
Seedling dahlias - 1 Mr.Bragg, 2 Mr.Maher. The flowers exhibited by Messrs.Brown of Slough, were of the most superior description, and Mr.Lovegrove's display of heartease attracted much notice.

After the show a party of about fifty sat down to an excellent dinner provided for them at the Barley Mow.
