While searching for my Southwood ancestors who lived in Windsor briefly from the 1820's to 1840's, I started searching back issues of the local newspaper, sections of which I transcribed and indexed, and which I put on the web during 2002 and 2003.
The result, an index of over 13,000 surnames sourced from the Windsor and Eton Express covering over 200 issues of various dates between 1826 and 1842. I didn't restrict the scope, and so while the majority of articles refer to individuals and events in Windsor, Eton, and surrounding towns. A considerable number relate to people from a wider area mainly : Berkshire; Buckinghamshire; Middlesex; Oxfordshire; Surrey; and London. The reports from this wider catchment probably reflect an increased circulation - and possibly, as the newspaper was "pro reform," it would have secured wider readership on this basis.

Since 2003 I have added futher extracts of the newspaper, and finally in May 2007 decided to combine the all the extracts into one collection, and have removed my earlier manual indexes. To search the extracts please use the Free Find Search engine at the top of the page, and of course the very best of luck.
