Narrative
Because of the destruction of the 1890 census records, Carrie Elizabeth Smith does not appear until the 1900 Census for Surry County, North Carolina. Page 14 of District 104 shows Carrie G Smith, W, F, Age 13, Born Feb 1887.
In the 1910 Census, Carrie is listed as W, F, Age 23 and as a teacher in the public school.
The next year, William Edgar Wilmoth will elope to in Bristol, Tennessee and get married. Family history states that Carrie’s father refused to allow her to marry Will and after their marriage, she was refused entry into the house. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Chesterfield County, Virginia.
