The following genealogical information has been obtained from a variety of sources. To those individuals who have helped me add to my understanding of family history I express my gratitude. The Williams line has been particularly difficult for me, having hit a brick wall at the onset of my search in 1963. As with many families, mine was not without incorrect information. The death certificate of Joseph Hooker Williams gave the name of his father as Thomas Williams; mother as Elizabeth Hull. In actuality, his father's name was James Thomas Willams. Because James T. Williams was named after his father, also James Williams, he went by the name of Thomas within the family. However, in all legal documents, etc. he was known as James T. Williams. A fluke brought this to light several years ago when I looked up information for another researcher through RAOGK (Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness) which I do volunteer work through. I realized halfway through copying an obituary for James Moore that he was probably the husband of my great aunt, Salofa Williams, the fourth child of "Thomas Williams". Indeed, this proved to be the case. After returning home and e-mailing the obituary to the person who requested it, I asked for additional information on this family. Shortly after receiving it we were both able to extend this line back many generations. I am a firm believer that through helping others, our needs will be met.
