John married Martha GILMORE, daughter of James GILMORE, on Jul 24 1821 in Monroe County, Mississippi. Martha was born about 1807 in Georgia.

10 M ix Raphael PEARCE was born about 1831 in Tennessee. The parent relationship has been disproved.

John and Martha Pearce reportedly arrived in Independence County, Arkansas around 1850 with 8 children. The 1860 Census shows George, James and John present in the same residence with John and Martha. The John listed matches with our John W. Pierce and data on James matches with the James Pierce of later Randolph County. George is almost certainly another brother. This accounts for 3 of the 8 children. By studying the census records of Independence County at least a guess at who the remaining children were. Montgomery Pearce living next to John and Martha was born in 1813 in Tennessee was almost certainly a brother to the elder John who was born around 1800 in Tennessee. Sarah Pierce, Susan Pierce, Thomas J. Pierce, Raphael Pierce and William Pierce are also listed in other locations with similar birth locations and proper ages to be the child of John and Martha Pearce. Some of these are almost certainly some of the children in John and Martha, but much more data is need from an authority source is need to determine which ones were their children. There are other Pierces listed in Independence County who are almost certainly some sort of family relation to our Pierces, but there too more study is needed. Nancy Ann Pierce is also listed as a child of John and Martha in the book Randolph County History. Volume 1. Regina Cook, copyright 1992. For more details see the family articles on Nancy Tatum Graham.

Please note that the children and descendants have used one or both spellings of the Pearce/Pierce name through the years.
