David Abernathy, son of David Abernathy Sr of Prince George Co VA and Martha Ann Turner of Prince George Co, was born 29 November 1752 in Dinwiddie Co VA. He moved to Lincoln Co NC and married Christina Forney there on 27 May 1782; Peter Forney provided the marriage bond. Christina was born in Lincoln Co in 1762, daughter of Jacob Forney and Maria Bergner, and died on 7 December 1842 in Giles Co TN. David (Jr) died in Giles Co on 23 August 1838. They had nine or ten children, all born in Lincoln Co NC- 1. Dionysia Abernathy, b 1784, married David Yates Roper in Robeson Co NC on 27 October 1809. They moved to Maury Co soon after they married, but within four years were in Giles Co. David Roper was born about 1783 in NC and died 1 September 1843 at Factory Creek, Giles Co. Dionysia died at Big Creek, Giles Co on 3 August 1853. They had eight children. (W) 2. Ephraim Abernathy, b 1784, married Mary Freels on 2 December 1824 in Hickman Co KY. She was born in Anderson Co TN on 15 May 1804 and died in 1835. Ephraim died in 1843 in Weakley Co TN. (W) 3. Milton F Abernathy M 23 Mar 1785, died in Giles Co TN on 10 June 1841. (W) 4. Sina Amanda Abernathy, b 26 Feb 1787, married Matthew Johnson in Maury Co TN in 1818. He was born 5 September 1783 in Chatham Co NC and died 18 September 1865 in Giles Co TN. Sina died in Giles Co on 26 January 1867. They had about ten children, all born in Giles Co. (W) 5. Susan Abernathy, b 1792, married William Riley McGhee about 1831 and lived for a few years in KY, but were in Giles Co by 1837. William was born in TN in 1812 and died in Giles Co in 1880. Susan also probably died in Giles Co. They had eight children; the first two were born in KY and the rest in Giles Co. (W) 6. Littleton Abernathy, b 1794, married Rachel Cutbirth in Maury Co TN in 1812. They lived there for a few years, had a daughter, then moved to Giles Co where they both died. Rachel died at Gibsonville in 1850 and Littleton died in 1856. (W) 7. John Young Abernathy, b 27 Nov 1798, was a young man when he moved to Giles Co by 1820 with his parents. He married Matilda Sharp Alexander in Giles Co about 1827, and died at Campbellsville, Giles Co TN on 29 October 1849. When he died, many of his children were sent to live with aunts and uncles nearby. Matilda died at Campbellsville on 29 July 1856. Some of their children moved to MO in the 1850s. Their ten children were all born in Giles Co TN- a. Almanza Ann Abernathy, b 18 Feb 1829, died in Giles Co on 16 January 1899. She had married Jacob Yokeley about 1850 and they had a dozen children in Giles Co. He died in Giles Co in 1909. (W) b. Marcus L Abernathy, b 16 Mar 1830, died in Barry Co MO on 30 May 1914. He had married Nancy Jane Sims about 1854 in MO. She was born 26 March 1836 in Greene Co MO and died 30 July 1879 at Cassville, Barry Co. Marcus died in Barry Co on 30 May 1914. They had ten children, all born in Greene Co MO. (W) c. Drusilla D Abernathy, b 1 Aug 1832, married William Alexander Richey about 1850 in Giles Co. He was born in Giles Co in 1827. Drusilla died in Giles Co on 24 June 1856. They had two children, and after she died, William moved to MO with Drusilla’s brothers. (W) d. James Ephraim Abernathy, b 6 Jan 1834, died in 1884 at Decatur, Wise Co TX. He had married Cassandra McCleary on 5 September 1858 at Ebenezer, MO. She was born 5 December 1839 at Madisonville, Monroe Co TN and died 23 January 1912 at Harbin, Erath Co TX. They had seven children; the first two were born in MO and the last five in TX. (W) e. Louisa Josephine Abernathy, b 23 Dec 183, died in 1911. She married John Story. Nothing more is known of her. (W) f. Miles Turner Abernathy, b 29 Dec 1837, never married. He lived in Barry Co MO in 1900, and died in TX on 31 January 1917. He was living with his nephew David Abernathy in Erath Co TX in 1910, so probably died there. This David Abernathy was a son of James Ephraim Abernathy. (W) g. Sarah C Abernathy, b 1 Feb 1840, married a Mr G DuPree and had three children born in Giles Co in the 1870s. (W) h. David R Abernathy, b 31 Oct 1842, married Martha A _____ and had a daughter. Martha was born in 1843. Nothing more is known. (W) i. Milton S Abernathy, b 31 Aug 1843, died 23 January 1922 in TX. He never married. (W) j. Robert G Abernathy, b 20 Sep 1848, died 4 October 1848 in Giles Co. (W) 8. Robert G Abernathy, b 1800, married Martha Fry, probably in Giles Co. They had six children by 1850. (W) 9. Drucilla Young Abernathy, b 3 Dec 1801, died 27 August 1830 in Maury Co TN. She had married James Orville Alexander on 6 March 1821 in Maury Co. He was born 12 July 1799 in Sumner Co and died 21 September 1828 at Fayetteville, Lincoln Co TN. They had five children, all born in Maury Co. (W) If the descendants of Buckner Abernathy and Hulda Rivers, who also lived in Giles Co in the early and mid-19th Century, were relatives of David Abernathy Jr’s descendants, they would only be distant cousins. But they knew each other and were friends since children of both John Young Abernathy (son of Davis) and Wilkins Abernathy (son of Buckner Abernathy), both moved to the same county in MO about the same time. Buckner Abernathy had married Hulda Rivers by 1790, but she died by 1805 because Buckner then married Patsy Harwell in Lincoln Co NC on 25 March 1805. Gardner Harwell provided the marriage bond for this second marriage and Lewellen Henderson was a witness. (W,1181m) |
