Loveless

      William Abraham Loveless, born 1818 in Lincoln Co TN, was a son of Jesse Loveless and Rebecca Mitchell, and died by 1860 in Tishomingo Co MS. He married Josephine Isaacs on 2 Apr 1837 in Crittenden Co KY. She was living without William in Madison Co AR in 1860, so William had probably died. She was born 22 Jul 1818 in Lincoln Co TN, daughter of Abraham Young Isaacs and Agatha Burford, and died 10 Jul 1918 in Crittenden Co. William and Josephine had six children-

b.   James S Loveless, b 1839 in in Limestone Co AL. He married Caldonia Virginia Stevens on 1 Jun 1867 in Crittenden Co. She was born in TN in 1846. They had a son-

c.    Elizabeth Smith "Betsy" Loveless, b 2 Nov 1844 in Limestone Co AL, married Jacob Elijah Sole Stevens in Crittenden Co KY on 18 Nov 1866. Jacob was a son of William Herrington Stevens (born 1810, died 1856 in Crittenden Co KY) and Mahala Ann Burton Stemmons. Elizabeth died 24 Jan 1879 in Brown Co TX and was buried there. Her husband died in 1922 and was buried at Salado, TX. Years later Elizabeth was moved to the cemetery on the north side of Salado, TX to be buried with Jacob. They had six children-

      2.   George Franklin Stevens, b 1870 in MO, married Mary Elizabeth Talbot in 1896. She was born in 1876 at Summerfield, LA. In 1900 they lived at New Braunfels, Comal Co TX; in 1910 they lived at An Angelo, Tom Green Co TX, and in 1920 they were at San Marcos, Hays Co. George worked in retials stores as a salesman, cashier, and bookkeeper. They had six children by 1910, all born in TX-

d.   Lucinda Rebecca Loveless, b Oct 1845 in Limestone Co AL. She married Meredith Paul Gentry Nickens in Knox Co KY in 1868. He was born 19 Sep 1846 in Williamson Co TN, son of William M Nickens and Chloe Delia Matthews, and died 1 Oct 1918 at Baldwin, Madison Co AR. Meredith was a Union Soldier in the Civil War, and was in the 6th Regiment of Company C of the Tennessee Cavalry. They lived in Madison Co in 1870 and 1880, but Lucinda was living in Brown Co TX in 1900 with her younger children, and she claimed that she was a widow (it was common for women in the 19th century to say they were widows after separating from their spouse). Lucinda lived in southeast Concho Co TX in 1910 (so did her brother Abraham Conn Loveless), and was still a widow, while Meredith continued living at St Paul in AR. Lucinda went back to Madison Co AR and died at St Paul in Sep 1916. She and Meredith had fourteen children with ten still alive in 1900. All but the eldest were born in Madison Co AR-

      1.   Thomas Nickens, b Apr 1869 in Knox Co KY. He moved to Brown Co TX with his mother (or she moved to be near Thomas). Thomas married Mrs Clara M Manley in 1900. She was born in TX in May 1878, and had two daughters when she married Thomas. That marriage soon ended because Clara was the wife of John W Crouch, living in Jasper Co in 1910. They married in 1908, and her two daughters Geneva and Lucy Manley were still living with her and their new step-father.

      3.   John Nickens, b Dec 1872. He married Ella _____ in 1892 and they lived at Baldwin in 1900. Ella was born in Sep 1875 in AR. They had five children, all born in Madison Co AL-

      4.   Emma Nickens, b 1 Apr 1875, married William M Pursell in 1894, probably in AR. They at first lived at Baldwin, but by 1910 were in Crawford Co. William was born 22 Jun 1848 in KY, and died 14 Jul 1931 in Crawford Co AR. This was his second marriage. He worked for the railroad. Emma died at Van Buren, Crawford Co in Feb 1975. They had nine children-

             a.   Mary Elizabeth Pursell, b 5 Dec 1895 at Lincoln, Washington Co AR. She died 2 Dec 1984 at Fort Smith, AR. Mary had married Mansil Monroe Crisp on 20 May 1913 at Fort Smith. He was born 20 May 1893 at Mansfield, Sebastian Co, son of James Henry Crisp and Rosa May Collier, and died 5 Dec 1980 at Fort Smith. They had four children.

             b.   John Pursell, b 3 Aug 1897, was still single in 1930. He died in Sep 1985 at Van Buren, AR.

             c.    Oma M Pursell, b Sep 1898, was a saleslady at a 5 & 10 cent store in 1930 in Crawford Co AR, not yet married.

             d.   Bessie Pursell, b 1902

             e.   Zora R Pursell, b 1904

             f.    Charlie O Pursell, b 18 Sep 1907, was still single in 1930. He died 24 Mar 2003 at Van Buren, AR.

             g.   James D Pursell, b 3 Jun 1909, was still single in 1930. He died 21 Oct 1999 at Van Buren, AR.

             h.   Lorine Pursell, b 1914, probably died in the 1920s.

             i.     Emma Florine Pursell, b 1914

      5.   Gentry Nickens, b Dec 1877, went with his mother to Brown Co TX in the 1890s. He was the eldest child in her home in 1900. He still lived with his mother in Concho Co TX in 1910, but in 1920 Genrty lived with his brother William at Morris, Okmulgee Co OK, and was not married.

      6.   Sarah Elizabeth Nickens, b 17 Apr 1878 at St Paul, married George Williams in 1894 and in 1900 they lived in Brown Co TX. George was born in IA in Jan 1851. Sarah died in Jan 1976 at Ponca City, OK. They had a daughter by 1900-

             a.   Elmira Williams, b Dec 1895 in AR.

      7.   Joseph C Nickens, b Feb 1880 at St Paul, lived with his sister Sarah in Brown Co TX in 1900 (family #27). Their mother lived twenty seven homes away (family #54) in Brown Co.

      8.   Noah Henry Nickens, b 20 Jan 1883, moved with his mother to Brown Co TX in the late 1990s, but in September 1918 he was back living in Madison Co AR at St Paul. When he registered for the WW I draft in September 1918, he named his father at St Paul as his closest relative.

      9.   William Nickens, b 14 Apr 1885, named his father “Mr M P Nickens” living at St Paul, AR as his closest relative in September 1918 when he registered for the draft. William then lived at Morris, Okmulgee Co OK. He was still there in 1920 and his brother Genry lived with him. William was married, but his wife was not in his home. She was Liddie Harlow. William died 11 ct 1963 at Elroy, Pinal Co AZ.

      10  Elijah Nickens, b 1887, continued to live with his mother in 1910 when she lived in Concho Co TX.

      11. David W Nickens, b 12 Oct 1888 at St Paul (per draft card), moved to Brown Co TX in the late 1890s with his mother. David still lived with his mother in Concho Co TX in 1910. He married in TX and lived at Garland, Dallas Co in June 1917. He worked for the Gulf, Colorado, & Santa Fe Railroad as a telegraph operator and lineman. David’s wife was Nannie _____. David was a widower in 1930 and lived in a boarding house at Copperas Cove, Coryell Co. He and Nannie had two children by June 1917, and three by 1920. All were born in TX-

             a.   Zoe Rebecca Nickens, b 7 Jun 1912, married Jimmie Knight and they lived in Lubbock Co. Zoe died 14 Jun 2001 at Lubbock.

e.   Abraham Conn Loveless, b 9 Mar 1848 in in Limestone Co AL, grew up in Limestone Co, and lived most of his life in TX. He married twice; the first marriage likely happened and ended before 1880 because Abraham was then single, living with Elijah R Leach in Brown Co TX. The second marriage was in 1881 with Fannie Auceby Robinson. Fannie was born in TN on 4 Oct 1861. They lived in Brown Co in 1900 and in Concho Co TX in 1910. Abram died 1 May 1916, probably in Concho Co, and Fannie was still living in Conch CO into the 1930s. She died 3 September 1952 and was buried in the Loveless family Cemetery with Abraham on their farm in Concho Co. They had nine children born in Brown Co TX-

      1.   Kate Irene Loveless, b Sep 1881, died in 1962 and was buried in the Loveless family Cemetery on her parents’ farm in southeast Concho Co. She had married a Mr Johnson and they had a daughter-

             a.   Frances S Johnson, b 7 Feb 1911, died 13 Jan 1917. Frances was buried in the Loveless family Cemetery on her grandparents’ farm in southeast Concho Co.

      2.   Josephine R Loveless, b 14 Apr 1883, married Phillip Chamberlain McGlasson about 1903. He was born 28 Sep 1874 in Lamar Co, son of Chamberlain Phillip McGlasson and Almyra Bennett, and died 28 Jun 1952 in Tom Green Co. Josephine died 14 Sep 1959. Both are buried in the Loveless family Cemetery on her parents’ farm in southeast Concho Co. They lived at San Angelo, Tom Green Co. He was the proprietor of a candy store. In 1910 their daughter didn’t show in their home, yet the census said they had one child. Josephine had a daughter-

             a.   Daisy Kate McGlasson, b 14 Jul 1905 at San Angelo, Tom Green Co TX. She married Calvin Otis Brown in 1930 and they at first lived at Dallas where he was a coffee salesman. Calvin was born in TX on 24 Aug 1906 and died in Kerr Co at Center Point on 31 January 1985. Daisy died in Kerr Co on 30 Aug 1979. They had a daughter-

      3.   Mary Pearl Loveless, b 14 Dec 1884, married a Mr Wilbanks, and died 2 Dec 1949. She was buried in the Loveless family Cemetery on her parents’ farm in southeast Concho Co.

      4.   Con Abraham Loveless, b 15 May 1886, married Nora Sunvision about 1911. She was born in TX 23 Jan 1891. Con was committed to a state mental hospital at Austin where he probably died on 23 Aug 1932 in Bexar Co. Nora died in Aug 1966 in McCulloch Co. They were both buried in the Loveless family Cemetery on his parents’ farm in southeast Concho Co. In 1930 Nora and her son William lived in McCulloch Co, and she claimed she was a widow then. She used her maiden name later in life. Con and Nora had two children born in Concho Co-

             a.   Fay Marie Loveless, b 2 Sep 1911, married Bettis Sam Day. He was born 9 Jan 1909 and died 27 Jul 1964 in Tom Green Co. Fay died 12 Jan 1962. Both are buried in the Loveless family Cemetery on her grandparents’ farm in southeast Concho Co.

             b.   William R Loveless, b 2 Apr 1916, died in Mar 1980 (not in TX).

      5.   William C Loveless, b 16 Sep 1888, had not married by 1930 and lived close to his widowed mother and brother Robert in Concho Co. Will died 29 Jul 1962 and was buried in the Loveless family Cemetery on his parents’ farm in southeast Concho Co. His gravestone is a double stone, combined with Grace Ophelia Pearson, who was born 15 Oct 1905, and died 26 Aug 1967. Will married late in life. They at first lived in Tom Green Co, but soon after moved to McCulloch Co and had four children born in TX-

      6.   Betty M Loveless, b 28 Jul 1890, married Amiel Luster Lockett about 1924 and they lived in Concho Co. He was born 1 Mar 1890 in Brown Co, son of Wyatt C Lockett and Elizabeth Garms, and died 1 Apr 1968 in Menard Co. Betty died 28 Mar 1974 in Tom Green Co. Both are buried in the Loveless family Cemetery on her parents’ farm in southeast Concho Co. Many of Luster’s family, including his parents, are also buried in the Loveless cemetery. Betty had no children by 1930.

      7.   Emma Lee Loveless, b 18 Sep 1893, had not married by 1930 and lived with her mother. Emma died 10 Jul 1965 and was buried in the Loveless family Cemetery on her parents’ farm in southeast Concho Co. Texas State Death records show her as being married when she died, probably in error.

      8.   Robert Franklin Loveless, b 7 Dec 1896, had not married by 1930 and lived close to his widowed mother and brother William in Concho Co. Robert died 12 Apr 1855 and was buried in the Loveless family Cemetery on his parents’ farm in southeast Concho Co.

      9.   Ray G Loveless, b 28 Jul 1901, died 29 Jan 1910 and was buried in the Abraham C Loveless family Cemetery, located in the southeast corner of Concho Co. (TXbd,M,Z,185n,355q, 200su,1149vwfc, 1150vwfb,1151f,283f)

f.    Benjamin Franklin Loveless, b 22 Feb 1853 in Limestone Co AL, died 2 March 1921 in Livingston Co KY. He married Mary Frances Hartigan [E13a1a4g] on 2 April 1873 in Crittenden Co and they had six children. See her line in the East Web page. (AS,675s)
