Laurie's Family

Williams research section

Maternal side: This section has links to information on the ancestors and families of Laurie's mother, Eunice Williams. Half of the ancestors were from Prussia and settled in the St. Mary's Ridge area of Monroe county, Wisconsin. Two of these, William Schmitz and Wilhelm Brueggen, were Civil War veterans.

The other half had lived in the US for a longer period of time. The Lawrence Alton family arrived in the US in 1829 from Ireland. Grena (Olson) Alton was a Norwegian immigrant in 1860. George Bird arrived in 1775 as a Hessian soldier and decided to stay when the war was over. The Roberts family arrived in the mid to late 1700's from Wales and settled in Virginia. The Williams ancestors are still a mystery. James Andrew Williams appeared in Morgan County, Ohio in 1878. We have nothing going farther back than that. The other families go back farther than we have been able to find out yet.

George Bird (c. 1756-1840)
Who was George Bird? Some say he fought in the Revolution and have joined the DAR on his records. I present proof that he was actually a Hessian soldier that was captured during the war. He deserted the Hessian army and remained in America after the war. NOTE: This is a work in progress. I have a lot of work to do yet. Comments welcome.
