This site tells you how to obtain
Sacramento County birth and death records, from 1850 to the
present. Note: many births and deaths from before 1900 were
not recorded; so if you cannot find a record, it does not mean that
the event did not take place in this county. (However, looking at
surrounding counties—Yolo, Sutter, Placer, El Dorado, Amador,
San Joaquin, Solano—would be prudent.) The site also provides
information on ordering copies of
Sacramento County marriage licenses, from 1850 to the present.

This site contains many Sacramento-area resources, including many
transcriptions of Sacramento county histories, city directories,
cemetery inscriptions, obituaries, and more.

The Library has genealogy databases online, which can be accessed by
cardholders. However, the library itself is the real gem for Sacramento
area researchers. Its holdings include most issues of the Sacramento
Bee and Union, going back to the Gold Rush, as well as
city and county directories going back to the nineteenth century. The
Library's Sacramento Room holds rare historical materials.

This nonprofit group's web site has more than 30 valuable databases
and indexes covering Solano County, as well as other useful
information and many helpful links.

http://web1.greatbasin.net/~gens/MATER/KILGORE/KILGORE.HTM
This web site has not been updated in some time (it includes several expired
links). However, what it does have are diaries and photographs of the
Kilgores, early settlers in the Sacramento Valley. Of particular interest
is William Kilgore's
fascinating and detailed account of
traveling overland to California during the Gold Rush.

"Th[is] ... article was published in book form by
Judge Spencer in 1872, not for general
distribution, but for the members of his
family and members of the Old Settlers'
association. It was, however, first presented
at an Old Settlers' meeting in Rock Island
county and subsequently appeared in the
Union."
"Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North":
http://www.tracesofthetrade.org
"[A] feature documentary, currently in post-production,
that tells the story of Producer/Director
Katrina Browne's
wealthy New England
ancestors, the largest slave-trading family in
U.S. history. Simultaneously, viewers will
follow descendants of the DeWolf family
as they grapple with the contemporary
legacy of slavery, not only for black
Americans but for themselves as white
Americans." The DeWolfs in the movie
are distant relatives of the DeWolfs on
this web site.
