Amos Curtis was born to William Riley Curtis and Nancy Hodge, December 10, 1825 Waynesboro, Wayne County, Tennessee. He died September 20, 1914 Limestone, Newton County, Arkansas, buried Curtis Cemetery, west of Swain, Arkansas (area known as Sandy Gap). Amos was living in Newton County, Arkansas when he enlisted with Arkansas Infantry, Company E, Civil War, also served with Company K. He served from March 20, 1863 through August 10, 1895. Amos Curtis had been living in Newton County just under ten years when his father passed away, back in Wayne County, Tennessee. Amos and brothers and a sister, all of Newton County, obtained an attorney to secure their share of the estate of William R. Curtis, February 7, 1871... from Page 57, of Power of Attorney Records, Wayne County, Tennessee: '...Thomas S. Curtis, John Curtis, Lucinda Hardison and Amos Curtis all of Newton County, Arkansas, appoint Robert P. Cypert of Wayne County, Tenessee our attorney to collect our distributive share due us from the estate of William R. Curtis dec'd late of Wayne County, Tennessee' Dated 8 Feb 1871. 6. Elizabeth Parten Weimer, May 19, 1893 Ft. Smith, Arkansas.

       Note:  There is more than one Curtis Cemetery in Newton County.

   5.  William R. Curtis, born April 25, 1860, died September 26, 1923,
       buried Curtis Cemetery, near Swain, Newton COunty, Arkansas.
