A BUFFALO RIVER HIKE

This picture was taken on a fall day when we were hiking along the Buffalo River in Newton County, Arkansas. We usually hike in the fall, when the snakes are on their way to bed and not interested in bothering us. You can see the walking sticks we made. We painted a map of the Buffalo River on our walking sticks, with the trail that we were going to be on that day. Attached to our walking sticks are beads and bells to help make noise to scare off bears. A flashlight and a compass are also on our walking sticks. The compass tells us which way we are going and the flashlight helps us to look inside of caves and into hollow logs. When we are on a hike, we alway wear a whistle around our neck. So in case we get lost or fall and get hurt we can blow on it to get someone's attention. There are alot of cliffs and bluffs on the trails along the Buffalo River. And sometimes you have to climb up a steep path to get to where you are going. When we get to a good spot, we always stop to rest and take a drink of water. This picture was taken then.
