James L. Coonts was born in Bristol, Washington County, Virginia May 16, 1807. He married Elizabeth Nobel May 29, 1838 in Parke County, Indiana. In 1845 he moved his family to Ozarks of Missouri. Later the Ozarks was named Douglas County, Missouri. James had alot of land and called it Coonts Holler. It is still on the maps today as Coonts Holler. James had a son named Clark who was in the Civil War with him. Anyway Clark died and left wife and 2 small children. Then Clarks wife passed away and James L. Coonts raised the children as his own. One child a boy was named John Franklin Coonts married Mary Milsap and the other one a girl Halla Florence Coonts married William Sprague. Now John Franklin was known as Frank by all family. He had a Uncle named John Coonts who was close to his age. Frank (John Franklin) family all moved to Newton County, AR. Frank's wife Mary Millsap is buried in Drury, Missouri in the Coonts area of New Hope Cemetery. Ida M. Coonts was a daughter who was born in 1888, Walter S. Coonts was son born November 22, 1889, Johnny S. Coonts was born April 1896, and Tony Blackwood Coonts was the baby born February 18, 1902. All 4 of them are around Newton County, AR. JOHN FRANKLIN COONTS was born September 17, 1866 in Cold Springs, Douglas County, Missouri, and died 1948 in Risco, New Madrid County, Missouri. He married (1) EDNA MAE HARRISON. He married (2) MARY MILSAP 1887, daughter of PERRY MILSAP and MARTHA HAMILTON.

Children of JOHN COONTS and MARY MILSAP are:

i. IDA M. COONTS, b. 1888; d. Jasper Cemetery Newton County, Arkansas

ii. WALTER S. COONTS, b. November 22, 1889; d. December 17, 1969, Mountain Judea Cemetery, Newton County, Arkansas.

iii. JOHNNY S. COONTS, b. April 1896.

iv. TONY BLACKWOOD COONTS, b. February 18, 1902, Newton County, Arkansas; d. February 02, 1971, Jasper, Newton County, Arkansas
