Joseph Cyrus (Joe)4 COWAN (William Isaac (Ike)3, Riley2, Samuel1) was born March 19, 1878 in Fallsville, Newton Co., Ar., and died October 07, 1969 in Clarksville, AR. He married (1) Sara Ann ROBERTS Abt. 1895 in Arkansas, daughter of Aaron ROBERTS and Rachel DAVIDSON. She was born 1877 in Arkansas, and died 1945 in Oklahoma. He married (2) Phoebe Elizabeth (Betty) COWAN July 09, 1901 in Newton Co., Arkansas, daughter of Samuel COWAN and Lucinda WARREN. She was born May 15, 1883 in Boston, Madison Co., Arkansas, and died December 31, 1981 in Clarksville, Arkansas Johnson Co.

Notes for Joseph Cyrus (Joe) COWAN:
Joseph was a fiddle player.  He played the fiddle for all the dances for
miles around Fallsville, Newton Co., Arkansas. People would come for miles
to hear him play and dance.  He was also Justice of the Peace for the area 
for many years.  He owned and operated a lumber mill. He built caskets for 
his family.  Joe and his second wife Phoebe "Betty" Cowan were 1st cousins 
once removed. He had one Gold front tooth.  He was my G-Grandfather.

Notes for Sara Ann ROBERTS:
Granddaughter Lois Cowan Davis says she was a sweet and hard working women.
She said she used to stay with her a lot when she was a child and young woman.
She called her Granny Cummins.  I didn't even know she was my Great 
Grandmother until I started doing genealogy.  I had heard lots of stories 
about Granny Cummins and did'nt even know who she was.

 i. Albert Lafayette (Ab)5 COWAN, born January 11, 1898 in Fallsville, 
Newton Co.,  Arkansas; 
       died October 27, 1960 in Redding, (Shasta) California,  
       62 years of age.  
       He married Pearl Belle "Pearlie" RHOADES March 16, 1919 in 
       Johnson County, Arkansas; born April 15, 1901 in Fallsville,
       Arkansas; died May 20, 1987 in Redding, (Shasta) California,  
       86 years of age.

Notes for Albert Lafayette (Ab) COWAN:
My grandfather was a very quiet man, I never heard him raise his voice
to anyone.  He worked hard all his life for what he got.  He died 
when I was only 10, but I have a lot of wonderful memories of him. 
I remember he loved popcorn and my grandmother used to make it for 
him almost every night. He labored in many different jobs from farming,
moonshine making to the lumber industry.

Notes for Pearl Belle "Pearlie" RHOADES:
She was a homemaker.  What I remember about her was that she was an 
excellent cook and liked to collect little nick nacks.  I used to 
like to stay with her and my grandfather when I was a child because 
they spoiled me and I got all the attention.  I loved to sleep in 
her feather bed.

       She married Charles ARBAUGH February 19, 1917 in Johnson County, 
       Arkansas; born August 04, 1895; died July 09, 1969 74 years of age.

      He married Hazel Allington.

      She married (1) Andrew Poteet February 27, 1934 in 
      Johnson County, Arkansas; born 1910.  
      She married (2) Starlin Hammonds July 18, 1936 in 
      Salas, Arkansas.
vi. Brockman R. (Brock) COWAN, born October 27, 1911; 
      died July 17, 1975 in Salus, Arkansas Case Cem. 
      He married Minerva Wages February 19, 1935 in Johnson
      County, Arkansas; born November 20, 1915.
vii. Alpha Omega (Alphie) COWAN, born March 01, 1919; 
      died December 31, 1991 in Salus, Arkansas Case Cem. 72 yrs of age. 
      She married Etsel Van Mack; born July 10, 1914 in Oliver,
      Arkansas; died February 20, 1976 in Salus, Arkansas
      Case Cem.  61 years of age.

Notes for Etsel Van Mack:
He was a sawmill Worker. His wife was his 2nd cousin once removed.
