Bill Neal, 83, of Lowell, died Sunday, August 20, 2000 at Lowell. He was born March 1, 1917 at Murray, the son of Amos A. and Sarah Tuggle Neal.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a charter member and deacon of Nail United Baptist Church, present member and deacon of United Baptist Church in Springdale; Master Mason, belonged to Swain Lodge 756, member of NARFE Chapter 1815, retired civil service and AARP Chapter 2356, former owner and operator of Neal General Store and retired in 1980 with 27 and 1/2 years as postmaster of Nail.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Roy N., Tarleton P., Harvey W., Melvin P., Floyd E. and Jessie A. Neal.

Survivors include his wife, Mae Watson Neal of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Rea L. Sparks of Tecumseh, Okla., Thelma and Ivan Bromley of Lowell, Patricia and Bruce Thurman of Waltonville, Ill.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren and 10 great-stepgrandchildren.

Buried August 23, 2000 at Mossville United Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Spurlock officiating. Burial was in Mossville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Freddie Edgmon, Virgil Edgmon, Roy Watson, Duel Ramsey, Pete Edgmon and Kevin Robertson. Honorary pallbearers were David Sparks, Gilbert and Tracy Brewer. {nct}
