Richard Standridge was the son of John and Mary C. Standridge,
he was born in Richland Township Newton County, Arkansas in 1844.
When the Civil War broke out he enlisted in the Union Army. He was
seriously wounded in a battle near Springfield, Missouri, during
the early part of the war. The men picking up the wounded soldiers
thought he was dead and passed him by. Some thirty hours later a
woman who was searching the battle field for missing relatives
found him alive and reported the fact to the soldiers. When he
recovered from his wounds he went back to his company and served
until the end of the war.
When the war ended he returned to Richland Township in Newton County, Arkansas where he married and
settled near the head of Richland Creek. He was a successful
farmer and a stock raiser.
His wife was Nancy Felkins. Richard Standridge lived to be about seventy years old.
