From the Pension Papers filed by Phebe after James Harp died

State of Arkansas

County of Newton

In the matter of Claim for pension of Phebe Harp, Widow of James C. Harp, deceased, late a private of Company F., 1st Regiment Arkansas Inf. Vols., personally Came before me, a Clerk in and for Newton County Arkansas, John J. Murphy and Sarah J. Carlton of the County of Newton and State of Arkansas who I hereby certify are respectable and creditable persons and who being duly sworn declared in relation to the aforesaid Claim as follows. that Joel Arrington Married James C. Harp and Phebe Harp in Newton County Arkansas on or about the 10th day January 1858 and that the said Joel Arrington was at that time a duly commisioned Acting Justice of the Peace in and for said county and that he is now dead and that we were present on the day and date ? above and saw the said joel Arrington, decÆd, Solemnize? the rights of Matrimony between the said Soldiers James C. Harp, Deceased, and Phebe Harp above named and knows that they lived together as man and wife up to the time of James C. Harps death. We further declare that we have no interest in said claim and are not concerned in its prosecution.

State of Arkansas Newton County I **** Key County Clerk and Ex office Recorder in and for Newton County Arkansas do hereby certify that the Marriage Record of Newton County Arkansas in which the Marriage of James C. Harp to Phebe Murphy was destroyed during the late Rebellion, and that Joel Arrington who has been proven to my Satisfaction to have been at the time of said Marriage an acting and duly commisioned Justice of the Peace is Dead.

State of Arkansas County of Newton

On the 18th Day of June A.D. 1875 Personally Came and appeared before me, Lemuel A. Jones, an acting and Duly Commissioned Justice of the Peace within and for the County of Newton and State aforesaid, John J. Murphy and Sarah J. Carlton and after first being by me Duly Sworn according to the Law they depose** and Say on oath that their Post Office address is Jasper, Newton County Arkansas and they are well acquainted with Phebe Harp, widow of James C. Harp, Late Private Co. F. 1st Arks. Inf. Vols. and was also well acquainted with said James C. Harp during his life and they further state that John J. Murphy is the Father and Sarah J. Carlton is Sister to said Phebe Harp and that they was present on the 10th of January 1856 and was Eye witnesses and saw Joel Arrington, a Justice of the Peace perform the marriage Ceremony between said James C. Harp and Phebe Murphy Now Harp and pronounced them husband and wife and they further state that the said Joel Arrington is dead and that they have no interest in the Prosecution of the Pension Claim of Phebe Harp.

She further declares that she was married to the said James C. Harp at Newton Co., in the State of Arkansas on the 6th day of January, 1858, by J. Arrington, a Justice of the Peace that her husband, the aforesaid James C. Harp died on the day above mentioned, and that she has remained a widow ever since that period, as will more fully appear by reference to the proof hereto annexed; and the following are the names and true date of birth of all her children under sixteen years of age, Sampson Harp, born on the 14th day of Oct., 1861, who now resides at Greene in the State of Missouri.
