Generation No. 1

 1.  John1 Crawford was born Abt. 1770 in McIntosh County, Georgia, USA, and died Bef. 1820.  He married Priscilla ??? Abt. 1789.  Priscilla's maiden name may possibly have been Molliday, Malleatte' or Holiday.
Priscilla was a "Fortunate Drawer" in the 1820 Land Lottery. She could only qualify as a widow who was a resident of the state for three years, so it assumed that her husband had died by this time. James, her oldest son qualified in his own right because he was a white male over 18.
Reben, Thomas, Ezekiel and William qualified as "orphans" under 21 whose father had died.

 2 i. James2 Crawford1, born 1791 in Effingham County, Georgia, USA.  He married Harriet Thomas in McIntosh County, Georgia, USA; born 1793 in Georgia, USA.
James was born in Effingham County, and raised in McIntosh County. He drew land in McIntosh County in the 1821 land lottery. He and his wife moved to Lowndes Co ad were living there during the 1830 and 1840 census'. They were members of the Friendship Primitive Baptist Church until they transferred their memberships to Unity Church near Naylor, Georgia on 8 February 1841.  They transfer their memberships again in  1842, to Wayfare Church where James served as a delegate from Wayfare to Union Church.  About 1845 they moved to Ware County, Georgia.  James is buried in High Bluff Primitive Baptist Church.

 5.  Gideon2 Crawford (John1)2 was born Abt. 1795 in Effingham County, Georgia, USA, and died 1873 in Pierce County, Georgia, USA.  He married (1) Sarah Burgess.  She died 1843 in Ware County, Georgia, USA.  He married (2) Irene Stone 1844.  She was born 1810 in Georgia, USA, and died Aft. 1880. Gideon may have served in the War of 1812.  A pension was applied for but denied due to lack of proof. In 1830 indicted for "riot revolt and tumult". His brothers James, Thomas, and Reubin were also involved along with John Bennett, his sister Civility's husband. In 1840 Gideon was living in a part of Ware County, that later became Pierce County.

 17 v. John Calhoun Crawford3,4,5,6,7, born Abt. 1836 in Lowndes County, Georgia, USA; died 1912 in Baker County, Florida, USA.  He married (1) Mariann ???; born 1843; died Bef. 1865.  He married (2) Elizabeth Roberts Bef. 1866; born 1838 in Lowndes Co, Georgia; died 1920.
John, his wife Mariann and their only child were living in Pierce County, Georgia in 1860 when the census was taken. By 1861 they had moved to Baker County, Florida where he enlisted in the Confederate States Army's 5th Florida Calvary Battalion. He was later transferred to the 2nd Florida Calvary, Company "F". He served there until May 1863 at which time he hired a substitute by the name of Green Hill to replace him in the service. It is believed that he did this because his wife Mariann had died leaving their only child orphaned without him. Mariann did not appear in the 1865 Florida State Census. By 1866 John had married Elizabeth. John became a Primitive Baptist minister by 1880 and for short time was the pastor at Emmaus Church, which was 5 miles from St George, Charlton County, Georgia. He was also a farmer. He and his family moved back and forth over the Florida/Georgia state line. The appear in the Charlton County, Georgia census of 1870, but were living in Baker County, Florida at the time of the 1910 census. John is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Baker County, Florida.

 18 vi. Gideon Crawford, Jr., born Abt. 1837 in Ware County, Georgia, USA.  He married Mary Frances Tomlin; born Abt. 1830.
 19 vii. Evaline Crawford, born Abt. 1839 in Ware County, Georgia, USA; died Abt. 1879.  She married Benjamin Dickson8 Bef. 1879; born 7 June 1835 in Bulloch County, Georgia, USA; died Aft. 1910 in Pierce County, Georgia, USA. Eveline is buried in Shiloh Church Cemetery, Pierce County, Georgia. Benjamin was a twin to Griffin.
 

 8.  Reubin2 Crawford (John1) was born 28 February 1801.  He married Anna Clark.  She was born Abt. 1810. Reubin was a the minister at Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church.

 21 ii. Elizabeth Crawford, born 28 December 1828 in Lowndes County, Georgia, USA; died 24 April 1904 in Pierce County, Georgia, USA.  She married William W Smith10; born 25 February 1825 in Georgia, USA; died 25 November 1909 in Pierce County, Georgia, USA. Elizabeth is buried in Shiloh Church Cemetery, Pierce County, Georgia.
 

 9.  Thomas2 Crawford (John1)11 was born 1803, and died Bef. 1890 in Baker County, Florida, USA.  He married Mary Ann ???.  She was born 1810 in Georgia, USA, and died Bef. 1870. He was mostly likely born in Effingham Co, Georgia. He lived in McIntosh Co during his childhood. In 1830 he appears with a wife and children in the Lowndes Co, Georgia census. After about 5 or 6 years he moved to Ware Co. From 9 June to 19 Aug 1838 and again from 31 August 1838 to 31 December 1838 he served in the Indian War in Captain James A Sweat's Ware County militia with the rank of 1st Lieutenant.   Between 1861-1865 he was a Justice of the Inferior Court in Ware Co.  About 1855 he moved to the "Big Bend" in the St Marys River in Charlton Co, Georgia, where he also served as Justice there from 1841-1849. He served as a Tax Receiver in Charlton Co from 1864-1866.

Thomas was a charter and organizing member of Emmeus Primitive Baptist church (22 May 1858).

 10.  Ezekiel2 Crawford (John1)12,13,14,15 was born Abt. 1805 in Effingham County, Georgia, USA, and died 1888 in Charlton County, Georgia, USA.  He married (1) Margaret ??? Bef. 1834.  She was born 1815 in South Carolina, USA, and died Aft. 1869 in Charlton County, Georgia, USA.  He married (2) Amy ??? Abt. 1875 in Charlton County, Georgia, USA.  Evidence suggests that Ezekiel grew up and lived in McIntosh County, Georgia, where he was granted 400 acres in 1838. About 1840 he moved to Ware Co, into the same community as his brother Reubin. When Pierce Co was formed the land he lived on became part of the new county. Later, Ezekiel moved to Charlton county near his older brother Thomas. He lived in Charlton County until he died.  Ezekiel is buried in Shiloh Church Cemetery, Pierce County, Georgia.
It is believed that Margaret's maiden name may have been Permenter.

Martha is buried in Molly Brown Cemetery, Pierce County, Georgia.

 30 ii. George Crawford, born 7 February 1834.
 31 iii. John Crawford, born 1838.  He married Mary Ann Davis.
 32 iv. Matilda Crawford, born 1840.  She married Robert Gideon Riggins.
 33 v. Mary Ann Crawford, born 1841; died 1921 in Baker County, Florida, USA.  She married James G "Jim Red" Crawford; born 1833; died 1917 in Baker County, Florida, USA. Mary Ann married her cousin. Mary is buried in North Prong Cemetery.  James is buried in North Prong Cemetery.

 34 vi. Ezekiel M Crawford, born 4 October 1843 in Blackshear, Pierce County, Georgia, USA; died 22 February 1901 in Blackshear, Pierce County, Georgia, USA.  He married Sarah Ann Raulerson 1868. Ezekiel is buried in Pearson-Raulerson Cemetery, Pierce County, Georgia.

 11.  William2 Crawford (John1)21,22 was born 8 August 1807, and died 26 May 1895 in Ware County, Georgia, USA.  He married Nancy B Lee 1838, daughter of George Lee and Rebecca ???.  She was born 23 January 1827 in Appling County, Georgia, USA, and died 5 November 1912. William was a 1st lieutenant of the militia in the 24th district McIntosh County from 1831-1833. He also served in the Indian War in Captain James A Sweat's company of the Ware County militia in 1838 and served  in the Okefinokee Swamp campaign. William is buried in High Bluff Primitive Baptist Church.
