Wilcox, Sr. was born before 1784 (4: 1790 census of Bohemia Manor Hundred, Cecil Co., MD) possibly 1760 in Wales (2A, 2B, 2C, see notes and 5: pg. 500), and died 8 October 1837 (2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E, 3A) in either Marion Co., Virginia (2B) or Monongalia Co., Virginia (2C). He married Anna Baker about 1782 in Hampshire Co., Virginia (see notes) or about 1785 in Cecil Co., Maryland (2C), a daughter of Nicholas Baker. She was born about 1764 in Hampshire Co., Virginia (see notes). Another record states her birth as September 1756 (2A, 2B, 2C).

IGI at LDS states his birth at 1760 in Wales but no source is given for the information. Source also gives marriage as about 1782 in Hampshire Co., Virginia to Ann Baker. Ann Baker's birth is given as about 1764 in Hampshire Co., Virginia, no parents were given. Same source states children as Nicholas J. Wilcox b. 1785 in Hampshire Co., Virginia, d. 1861 and Steven Wilcox b. 1783 in Hampshire Co., Virginia.
IGI at LDS states his birth at 1760 in Wales, Yorkshire, England and death on 10 AUG 1837. This record is a separate entry from the one above.
Ancestry.com submission by Amy Michelle Reynolds on 6 November 2002 points to a possibilty that Stephen Wilcox Sr. may have been from Pennsylvania. I have been unable to find any proof to disclaim or to prove this information however. Or the fact that this maybe a different Stephen altogether. The similarities are startling however:

"When a young man, perhaps about 1780 he broke away from the crowded economic conditions of his native land and sought a home in the liberal land across the Atlantic. He was a farmer and weaver by vocation, and located in Hampshire Co., Virginia, and died in Marion Co., West Virginia, 8 October 1837. He married Anna Baker, and had two children: Stephen and Nicholas (Nicholas moved to Tyler Co., West Virginia). Where to start, ...hmm with Wilcox information.
First of all, your Grandfather Rete Wilcox, left his farm to Spurgeon. His son Devon still lives there on the farm. Spurgeon raised his niece Buela Snyder. Must have been on his wifes side. Her name was Clara Cooper. Lena Wilcox Leeper was known as Lynn and she never did anything with her property from Benjamin so it was incorporated into the family property that Howard is caretaker of.Your grandmother Mabel, was an extremely beautifull woman. A real head turner.
On to Robinsons,,,
William R. was mean to his family and wives. His children that lived were,
Gertrude, who lived on the farm in Odaville last, (married Harlan Parsons-- they had a boy, but he died young. He was English, and they divorced. She never remarried) Alice, Howards grandmother. She was 100 when she died.
Della, who married a Grayson lived in Coal Run, OH. Harrison raised a large family in Mason County, WV. His children were: Clara Joe, Emma ( she is still living in Mason County and she married a Dermott-- she has 2 or 3 children.), Carl, Bobby, Emily, Earl Wayne, & Harrison Jr. (His children are Danny, Joe, Ed, Rick, son, daughter. Harrison Sr., lived over in Pomeroy right near the Pomeroy bridge). Carl, he was shot in Odaville by the Constable. Said to have a son named Alvey who lives in Racine, Meigs, OH. Charlie, who lived in Amesville, Athens Co., OH. He is the one who moved away and never had anything to do with his family again, not one of them. Had a dozen kids. Benjamin, who died at the age of 73 from a stroke. Buried in family cemetery with no marker. Never married. Alvey the son of Charlie said upon Benjamins death that he was told by Benjamin that he was really his son. This is thought to be untrue, and only made up by Benjamin to keep property or something that Benjamin had. This thought was never investigated, as they didn't really worry about it. William R. had a total of about 12 children, however many died very young.
All the Robinson descendants that Howard knows or knew are all Church of Christ religion.Benjamin F. Robinson had property in Wirt and Roane Counties as well as Jackson County, WV. It is believed he either gave his Wirt properties away to children or grandchildren or sold it prior to his death. I know this is bits and pieces, but it is how I got it. So, besides the genealogy information from Robert, do you have any interesting stories to tell of our ancestors??

I want to thank you for all those wonderful Emails. I have been keeping awful busy here of late. My brother just moved into an old folks home, quite a big step to take, but a necessary one. His name is Winferd Ashley Wilcox and he was born May 30, 1912. He is my only sibling. He had five kids, 4 boys and 1 girl. He had two boys to his first wife and lost her to childbirth when the second boy was born. He married again and had a boy a girl and a boy. That marriage just lacked about five months of lasting fifty years. My wife and I never had any children, but we had 54+ wonderful years together before she passed away.I think my nephew and I will head for Jackson County sometime in October. Yes I plan to tramp several cemeteries and take a bunvh of pictures. Incidently those pictures you Emailed -- the lady looks very much like it could be my Aunt Nellie Wilcox Miller. I will show it to her two daughters that are still living and see if they recognize her. You said you located some of Spurge's kids but you didn't say who. One girl lives in Vienna, WV, and another one lives in Marietta, OH. I don't remember either one, but I hope to find out more when I am down there. I remember Clinton, Virgil, Ardra, Clem, and Bevan. Spurgeon was known as Spurge. He loved his home and property. He had inherited his land from his father. Beven Wilcox inherited it from Spurge, and his son Bevan Jr. inherited it from him. Bevan Jr. will in turn pass it on to his son, attempting to keep the Wilcox name in ownership of their family homestead. Spurge, as well as the other family in West Virginia were quite tough, well adapted people to their climate. The following is recalled by Bevan Jr.: While staying with my Grandfather Spurge, I went to the kitchen and drew water and had to place it in the front room by the stove to keep it from freezing. In the morning the water would be frozen over. Now Grandpa Spurge's room wa a room off the front room. Without heat, he would sleep quite well in his room all night. Clara (Cooper) Wilcox, went to live with her son Bevan until her death. She was with him as long as Bevan Jr. can remember. Grandfather Spurge, never did leave his farm, refusing stubbornly never to live in town. He was found dead by his children out on his farm and is buried in Independence Cemetery in Jackson County. The original house that Arestas and Spurge lived in is now gone. The small one room cabin that Denver had lived in next to Rete's place is still there. Property near the Wilcox farm was Morgans as far as Bevan Jr. can recall. (3C)
