This photo was taken just days before the reopening of the
conservatory which once again houses exotic plants.
The restoration cost approx £3 million and has been returned once again
to its original design from over 100 yrs ago.
The Bear Pit is also due to undergo major reconstruction as is other parts of the Gardens. The last bear to be temporarily kept in the pit I believe was in the late 1880s and belonged to a Sheffield man who was arrested for being drunk in charge of an animal. The police had the bear placed in the pit until he sobered up the next day.
