Figtree Lane
Figtree Lane dates back to around 1700 and is named after
a house which stood in the area.
Its assumed there was a fig tree in the house grounds.
From Campo Lane looking towards Queens Street and Bank Street. The white building on the right is Victoria Chambers, the original Sheffield Hospital for Women. When it first opened, 29th June 1864 it had just six beds available. It moved to Leavygreave Road, Jessops Hospital for Women 22nd July 1878
