NOTE: (1) Samuel Slade enlisted in the C.S.A, Company "E" 57th Alabama Infantry, (Ozark, AL) on September 15, 1863 and served until close of the war.
He applied for a Confederate Pension on October 14, 1899 (age listed 79 years) in Bexar County, TX but Post Office address in Loire, Atascosa County, TX. Disability
is listed as "Disease of the kidneys and feebleness from old age." One of the witnesses' affidaviat states: "This is to certify that Samuel S. Etheredge was a member
of Co E 57th Ala. Regiment in the war between the States.  I was in the above Co. and Regiment and saw him suffer from wounds made by yankee lead." signed by J.F. Etheredge.
(2) He was living in Wilkinson Co., GA at Fed. Census 1840, 1850 & 1860.
(3) Letter of guardianship for George W. Sanders, dtd Apr 2, 1860.
(4) Joined Liberty Baptist Church, Wilkinson Co., GA, June 9, 1838.
(5) In 1867 moved from Wilkinson Co., GA and settled in Columbus, Colorado Co., TX. Later moved to Coke Co., TX

enlisted April 26, 1861; was captured August 17, 1864 at Deep Bottom and was exchanged March 14, 1865.
(3) From application: "I was paroled from Pt. Lookout, Md prison about 2 weeks before the surrender".  
(4) Nathan died from "chronic nephritis" per Dr. L. Pickard on October 9, 1919 and is buried in the Abilene Cemetery, Taylor Co., TX
