Andrew Simpson Eddings, civil war Documents

He was listed as age 20, but was actually 21 at the time of his enlistment.
Caswell Eddings son John Henry Eddings was listed as a deserter too.

He was captured twice by the Union Army and released twice.

The second time John Henry did not report back to his Confederate Army and was listed as a deserter.

I am reading a book about Abe Lincoln and among all his problems with politicans,
the northern Army had lots of deserters too.

One lady was told her husband died and a few years later she ran into him in Montreal.
He had stuffed his ID's, letters, etc. into a dead soldiers pocket, so the gov't thought he was dead.

He did not want to fight.
