Subj: My Eddings family picture names Date: 4/7/2001 9:00:18 PM Central Daylight Time From: Selman D. Eddings Well Bill I think I have finally figured out all the names. The picture was taken circa 1910.
Two of the children had not been born yet. |
I think my older sister has this picture
with the names on back. I will check with her and let you know for sure who
the elderly lady is. Put it down as Rebecca Caraway Kirkendall for now. My dad, Selman in front row, was about five here. Isaac died in 1915 when my dad was 10. There is a story on my dad you might , or might not, find interesting. When his dad died, leaving his Mom with two small kids, not born yet in this picture, dad thought he was a burden to his mother. They were a proud family but dirt poor. Dad hopped a freight train at age 10 and got off in St. Louis, MO. The police picked him up as a child vagrant. He would not give his name at all so they called him "Irish". They put him in a reform school in Boonesville, MO. The reform school "fostered" him to a couple who had a nursery. He stayed with them and learned a lot about horticulture and trees, still only known as Irish! One night he decided to leave so he hopped another train back to Silsbee, TX. I will never forget that story. Thanks for all you have done Bill. Regards, Selman D. Eddings Houston, Texas |
