CADDO TRIBE
1895 Maps of Indian Nations

The Caddo belong to the Caddoan linguistic family. They were first know to have been in the Louisiana Territory and were referred to in the chronicles of the DeSoto expedition in 1541.Soon after the Unites States purchased the Louisiana Territory, a peace treaty was made in which the Caddo ceded all their Louisiana lands and agreed to move to the Indian Territory of Oklahoma and settled on the Washita River in what is now Caddo County, Oklahoma. The present Caddo Tribe also includes the remnants of the Anadarko Tribe.

The Caddo were affiliated with the Wichita and Delaware Tribes after the three tribes were settled north of the Washita River, and their dealings have been relatively friendly ever since.Their affiliation, however, is only in their social activities and their joint landholdings; all three tribes have separate governing bodies.

The Caddo have retained most of their tribal songs and dances, and they conduct dances throughout the year, es

Especially during the spring and summer. They are one of the few tribes that have certain Indian songs they sing inharmony.
