CITIZEN BAND POTAWATOMI
1895 Maps of Indian Nations

The Citizen Band Potawatomi Tribe of Oklahoma is so-called because certain Prairie Band members applied for citizenship papers in the 1860s, having been granted this right by treaty. Many sold their fee patent land in Kansas; and, landless and destitute, they were removed to Indian Territory.Reservation land was provided for them there; however, since they were citizens, legal questions arose as to their right to live on it.Today, there is no Potawatomi reservation in Oklahoma, but the band owns 1.25 acres of land; individual band members own land, also.
