Sheriff (Isaac) DeGroff Nelson (my grandmother's notes list him as Aaron DeGraff Nelson, but the Griswold volume lists his name as Amos and lists some other family information.) His obituary says that he originally bore the name of his father, Isaac DeGroff Nelson, but that in his later life the "Isaac" was dropped and he was just known as DeGroff Nelson or Sheriff Nelson) born Aug. 21, 1839 in Fort Wayne, Indiana Brother of William Rockhill Nelson, founder/publisher of Kansas City Star newspaper married Helen Catharine Edsall on Dec. 14, 1864 was sheriff of Allen County, Indiana Father of Eva T. Nelson, Julia Nelson, Eddie Nelson died May 27, 1887 at 48 years of age
