The Batson School was built on land donated
by William M. Batson. He also donated much of the money needed to construct
the school. To access the school from the east side of the West Fork of the
Grand River, the students would travel down Batson Avenue (which crossed
William Batson’s land) and across the West Fork of the Grand River on the Batson Bridge. The school
was closed in the early 1940’s due to consolidation. For a detailed sketch of the area please
see Land
Map of William M. Batson. This photo was
scanned from a Xerox copy sent to me from Donna Meek Robertson
a descendant of one of the Meek boys. |
