Christian Yerty or Yorty or Yertey was given to me as being born in Frederick County, Maryland, but I have yet to see any evidence of it. My guess would be that he was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania abt 1787. I have also seen some work that says he was born 1784 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. My theory is that his father is William Yerty. This William shows up in 1810 in the American Eagle a Huntingdon County newspaper and in the 1820 Frankston Twp, Huntingdon County, PA Census and in Huntingdon County and Bedford County land deeds with his second wife, Elizabeth. I believe William died in 1824 in Sugar Creek Twp, Armstrong County, PA.
Rachel Bittle was the daughter of Andrew Biddle (Andreas Buttel)and Christina Cover. She was christened in German Reformed Church, Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland in 1795. At the time her father owned land in the Bush Creek area of Frederick County. In 1797 when she was still a young girl her father bought land in Woodberry Twp, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. This land was along Clover Creek in what is now, Woodberry Twp, Blair County, Pennsylvania. The old Biddle Farm Cemetery where her brother is buried is still there.
On Jan 20, 1809 she had a letter remaining for her referring to her as "Rachel Bittle, Morrisons Cove" at the Post Office in Alexandria, PA. This from the Huntingdon Gazzette Newspaper.(Morrison's Cove included Woodberry Twp, Huntingdon Co, PA and some of Bedford County, PA.)
Sometime between 1809 and 1826 she married Christian Yerty as in 1826 Christian and Rachel Yerty sell some land which appears to be near the Plum Creek, East Sharpsburg, Blair County, PA area to William Shiffler. (Several of Rachel's nieces and nephews moved to this area.)
I suspect that 1826 is about when Christian and Rachel moved to Sugar Creek Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania.
I have found evidence of 6 children so far and believe there is probably more. The children are: Rachel (or Sarah) who marr Adam Wyant, David, a daughter born 1820/1825, Susan b. 1833 who marr David Bowser, Catherine b. 1835 who marr Benj. S. Bowser, and Mary Ellen b. 1840 who marr Alonzo Bowser.
It appears that Rachel (Bittle) Yerty died just after daughter Mary Ellen was born as she doesn't appear enumerated with Christian in the 1840 Armstrong County, PA census. From the 1850 census Christian appears to have married again to a lady named Elizabeth. There is a teenager named Elizabeth Alstead ag 16 who is living with them but not labeled as a domestic.
Christian Yerty died 17 May 1863 in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania
