Quarter Session Books for Huntingdon County, PA

The Quarter Session records contained things like fornication and bastardy cases, township appointments for constable and overseer of the poor, township inhabitants petitions for roads, assault and battery cases, tavern lic recommendations, and some references to African-Americans. The Quarter Session records are under the responsibility of the Prothonotary Office.

In May of 2001, Jana Stokes visited the Huntingdon County, PA Courthouse and searched some of the Quarter Session records looking for Biddles and other related surnames. Due to time limitations Jana started with Vol E which covers the Quarter Sessions from Jan 1806 to Jan 1813. This volume was in excellent condition. First Jana searched from p. 426 Nov 1812 Session to the end of the volume, then she began at the beginning of this Vol E and searched until p. 332. At this point she was out of time, so pp. 332-425 were NOT searched. Jana extracted ALL Biddle stuff, along with some road petitions and some stuff on the following: John Brumbaugh, Abraham Ditch, John Bear, Harmon Von Dorsion, Conrad Brumbaugh, Henry Smith, Wm Barley Jr, Casper Dillinger, Jacob Rode, Henry Wisawer, Adam Smith, Daniel Powerl, Henry Arker, Elizabeth Biddle, Henry Beigle, George Evarhart, Samuel Mobley, John Hudson, Joseph Feay, Thomas Provines, Thomas Johnston, Lazaurus B McLain, Jacob Ake, Samuel Hoover, Jacob Rodkey, Joseph Everhart, Tobias Hanline, Chirstopher Smith, John Shenefelt, John Smith, Morgan Wagner, Mary Smith, Richard Smith, John Eichholtz, William Spear, John Martin, Negroe Sarah, Bill Ingram, John Royer, John Shoenflet, Abraham Holm, Adam Sorrick, William W. Harris, Abraham Winters, Thomas P. Neely, Doctor Peter Shoenburger, and John Bechtel.

Earlier volumes covered pre 1800s. Beginning with Apr 1838 the books switched to volume numbers rather than letters. Thus Quarter Sessions Book 1 covered Apr 1838 - 1846.

If anyone gets a chance to do more searching of these records for Biddles, Jana would appreciate hearing from you.
