Solomon Wyatt
b. 03
Apr 1868 in Dry Fork, Randolph County, West Virginia
d. 28 Mar 1934 in Randolph County, West Virginia
Solomon is believed to be buried in an unmarked grave in the Wyatt
Family Cemetery in Randolph County, West Virginia. Solomon was the son of Ellis A.
Wyatt and Mary Pennington (MRIN
8).
Note: Solomon's date and place of death have not
been verified. His date of death comes from bible records that his wife kept.
A record of death has not been found for him thru county records. His place of
burial comes from a transcription of the Wyatt Family Cemetery which states
that Solomon Wyatt was buried in an unmarked grave. No birth or death dates
were given. It's very probable that this is correct, but I have nothing to
prove this information
Mary Alice Smith
b. 03 Aug 1880 in Job, Randolph County, West Virginia
d.
13 Oct 1958 in Weippe, Clearwater County, Idaho
Mary Alice was buried in the Weippe Cemetery in Clearwater County, Idaho
She was the daughter of
Gabriel L. Smith and Sarah Lambert (MRIN
9)
Solomon and Mary Alice married on or about 18 Dec 1896.
It appears that Solomon went to get the marriage license without Mary Alice and
came back with Barbara A. Smith documented as the bride. My own personal theory
is that probably Solomon and Floyd Triplett (the county clerk) where talking
about Barbara Bennett, Mary Alice's grandmother, as Floyd filled out the
marriage License and he accidentally wrote Barbara's name in place of Mary's.
They did get married but did not file the completed version of the marriage
license with the county clerk's office. Their length of marriage given in census
records support the 1896 date. Solomon and Mary Alice had a total of 12 children. Of those 12, only 6 lived
to adulthood. Of those 6 surviving children, 2 died as young adults, leaving 4
of them to live full life spans.
2. Ada Jane Wyatt was born on 14
Jun 1900 and died on 06 Jun 1901 just before her 1st birthday. Her place of
burial is unknown to me at this time. She may be buried in one of the graves in
the Wyatt Family Cemetery that are marked with creek rock.
Note: When Chris Harman, the census
enumerator, visited this household on 26 Jun 1900, he stated that Mary
Alice was the mother of 2 children and that both were living, however,
he only named 1 child, Peachie. Ada was the 2nd child, she would have
been 12 days old on the day this census was taken.
3. Jasper Bryan Wyatt
b. 14 Mar 1902 in Alpena, Randolph County, West Virginia.
d. 24 Mar 2000 in Orofino, Clearwater County, Idaho
In September of 1929, Jasper traveled to Idaho
with his cousin Paul Wyatt and worked in the Lumber Mills. He married Wilmerth Smith
on 28 Jun 1941 (MRIN 11), Wilmerth died less than a year
later on 11 Apr 1942. later that year, on 17 Sep 1942, Jasper went to Spokane,
Washington and enlisted in the Army. He fought in World War II, he was a
member of Company G. 355th Infantry Battalion, 89th Division. After the
war, he adopted his nephew,
Francis John "Jonny" Wyatt who died at the age of 3. Jasper did not
marry again until 25 Apr 1969 (MRIN 12). This new wife (still living) brought step-children and
grandchildren into Jasper's life. Jasper spent the rest of his life in Idaho and
was laid to rest in the Weippe Cemetery in Weippe, Clearwater County,
Idaho.
4. Mary Elizabeth Wyatt was born
on 29 Nov 1903 in Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia. At the age of 16, she married
28 year old Dorsey V. Hornick (MRIN
13) on 04 Jul 1920 in Faulkner, Randolph County, WV. Dorsey passed away on 18 Dec 1949
at the age of 57. Mary passed away at the age of 73 in Charlottesville, Rockingham County,
Virginia on 28 Aug
1977. She was buried next to Dorsey in the Little
Arlington Cemetery in Elkins, Randolph County, WV. Dorsey and Mary had 6 known
children (5 are presumed to be living).
5. Sarah Ellen Wyatt was born on
12 Jan 1906 in West Virginia. When she was 14 years old, she married 18 year old
Dayton Gordon Summerfield (MRIN
14) on 07 Sep 1920 in Elkins, Randolph County, WV. Dayton passed away in December of 1973 and Sarah passed away on 18
Feb 1990. Dayton and Sarah had 4 children (3 are still living).
Dayton and Sarah may be buried in
New Jersey.
6-7. Calvin and Albert
Wyatt , twin boys, were born on 14 Apr 1909 in West Virginia. Albert died the
same day (possibly stillborn), Calvin died 5 days later on the 19th. Their place
of burial in unknown. In April of 1910 the family lived in the Union District in
Pendleton County, WV. This may be where the boys are buried.
8. Samuel Crane Wyatt was born
on 16 Sep 1910 in West Virginia (probably in Pendleton County where this family
is found in the 1910 census). Samuel never married or had children. He moved with
his family to Idaho where he died at the age of 35 on 23 Mar 1946 in Orfino (Clearwater County)
from complications with diabetes. He was buried in the Weippe Cemetery in Weippe,
Clearwater County, ID.
9-10. Oliver and Olive Wyatt,
twin boy and girl, were born on 06 Aug 1913 in West Virginia. Both died the same
day (possibly stillborn). Their place of burial is unknown, it's possible that
they are buried in Pendleton County where the family is last found
in 1910.
11. Lillie Evelyn Wyatt was born
on 12 Jul 1914 in West Virginia and died on 28 Aug 1914. Her place of burial in
unknown, possibly in Randolph County as the family is found there about a
year and a half later.
12. John Willington Wyatt was
born on either the 9th or 10th of Mar 1916 in either Evenwood or Bowden,
Randolph County, West Virginia. He had a grammer school education, completing
either the 4th or 6th grade. When he was 26 years old, John enlisted as a
Private in the Army on 02 Dec 1942 at Fort Hayes in Columbus, Ohio and fought
in WWII. After the war, John met with his family in Idaho. He married Ruth Doralee James (MRIN
4) around the late 1940's early 1950's - they later divorced. He lived in
Washington State for many years until he moved to Arizona in the 1990's to
be with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He passed away on 04 Dec 2001 in Kingman,
Mohave County, Arizona. He was buried in the Mt. View Cemetery in Kingman. John
was the father of 4 children (3 are still living)
The difference in John's date and place of birth are from his
children and the bible records that his mother kept. John always
celebrated his birthday on March 9th but his mother wrote that he was
born on March 10th. His daughter states that he was born in Bowden while
his brother wrote that he was born in Evenwood. The agreeable
information is that he was born in the 2nd week of March 1916 in
Randolph County, WV.
