Ellis A. Wyatt
b. about 1825 in Randolph County, Virginia (now West Virginia)
d. April 1900 in Randolph County, West Virginia
Ellis was the son of John Wyatt and Elizabeth Raines (MRIN
63).
In 1898 Ellis stated that he was from German ancestry (his mother's side?).
Ellis is buried in a small cemetery that was on his property that is now known
as the Wyatt Family Cemetery
Mary Pennington
b. September 1839 in Virginia
d. after 1900 (between 1901-1909?)
Mary was the daughter of John and Winnie Pennington.
Although I believe that Mary is buried in the Wyatt family cemetery, I have not been able to verify
it with any sources at this time. She is last found in the
1900 census, shortly after Ellis died, with her sons John and Seymour and a
granddaughter, also named Mary Wyatt.
In 1848, Ellis built the first house in the
neighborhood where he resided in Dry Fork. The following year he married Mary.
Together they made that house a home. This would be the home that they shared
for 51 years, where their children were born and raised and sadly, where they
had to bury some of them, where they held
family gatherings and parties with their friends and neighbors; where they spent
the rest of their lives. Ellis and Mary had a total of 11 children, by 1900, 5 of them had
died (Jacob, Ellis Jr., Jasper, Washington and either Phoebe or Mary Ellen), I
believe that of the 5 deceased children, at least 4 of them (the boys) are
buried in the Wyatt Family Cemetery.
Political: Ellis and Mary had a son born in the
2nd year of the Civil War; The fact that they named their son John Imboden Wyatt
says a lot about their stand in the Civil War. John
D. Imboden was a Confederate General who fought in the area of Virginia (now
West Virginia) that Ellis and Mary lived around. After the Civil War, Ellis was the first and only Democrat to vote at Dry Fork.
No Democratic ticket had been printed, and one had to be printed to accommodate
him. His father, John Wyatt was the first settler between Dry Fork and Shaver's
Fork. He settled on Middle Mountain in 1827.
The 11 children of Ellis and
Mary were:
- Jacob Flanagan Wyatt was born on 04 Apr
1851 on his families farm in the Dry Fork District of Randolph County,
Virginia (now West Virginia). He died on 22 Oct 1866 at the age of 15. He was
buried on his families farm in what is now known as the Wyatt Family Cemetery.
Since vital records were not required back then, there is no record of death
for Jacob to tell us why he died at such a young age.
- Samuel Crane Wyatt
b. 13 May 1853 in Dry Fork, Randolph County, Virginia (now West Virginia)
d. 06 Aug 1928 in Randolph County, West Virginia
Samuel worked as a coal miner. He died at the age of 75, he was a widower.
He was buried in the Mt. Zion Church Cemetery in Randolph County, West
Virginia
- Pheobe Jane Wyatt

- John Imboden Wyatt
b. November 1862 in Dry Fork, Randolph County, Virginia (now West
Virginia)
d. after 1900 (last seen in the 1900 census)
I have found a John Wyatt, age 55
living in Randolph County, West Virginia in the 1920 census. The name,
age and location all fit. This John Wyatt was a boarder in an unfamiliar
household. I have not been able to locate John after this date.

buried.
