John Wyatt
b. about 1801 in Virginia
d. between 1880-1890 in Dry Fork, Randolph County, West Virginia

Elizabeth Raines
b. about 1801 in Virginia
d. between 1880-1890 in Dry Fork, Randolph County, West Virginia

Taking the year of birth of their first known child and subtracting 1 year, John and Elizabeth are estimated to have been married about 1823 in Randolph County, Virginia. Early in Randolph County's history until the close of the Civil War there were courts held for the sole purpose of providing for the country's defense. Military Officers were appointed the same as Civil Officers. The militia had regular times for mustering, and there were fines for non-attendance, and those fines were collected the same as taxes. John Wyatt appears in these records as a Lieutenant of Militia in 1853

The 6 known of children of John and Elizabeth were:

  1. Emily Wyatt
    b. about 1823 in Virginia
    d. 1880
Emily married Archibald Earl White (son of Thomas White) in 1848

  2. Ellis A. Wyatt

He married Mary Pennington in 1849 (MRIN 8) Read more...

    d. 01 Jun 1888 in Upsher County, West Virginia
John married Celia Gould and moved to Upsher County where they remained the rest of their lives.
(Note: John's date of death and connection to this family comes from a message board posting by the wife of a direct descendant - I have not been able to verify with a source yet)

  4. Ishmael  Wyatt
    b. about 1828 in Virginia
    d.

  5. Mary A. Wyatt
    b. about 1834 in Virginia
    d.

  6. Benjamin Coyner Wyatt
    b. about 1838 in Virginia
    d. 1890
Preferred to go by his middle name of "Coyner". He married Julia Ann Rhodeman who also died in 1890. The couple had 4-5 sons, one of whom was E.C. Wyatt who was an avid researcher and wrote a series of articles in the 1920's for the Randolph County Enterprise about families and their histories in the local area.
Coyner is said to be buried in a neglected grave yard in Canaan Valley about six miles north of Davis in Tucker County, apparently the graves are now being farmed over? I don't know if Julia is buried there with him or not.

  7. David B. Wyatt
    b. 1842 in Randolph County, Virginia (now West Virginia)
    d. 27 Feb 1892 Randolph County, West Virginia
David is buried in the Cooper-Wyatt Cemetery
