Got their marriage license on 19 June 1847 but were married 21 June in Hardeman Co., TN.(Bond made June 19, 1847 - bond by John Nelms and James Wade, Solemnized June 21, 1847 by A. J. MISC: John Morris Nelms was believed to have been in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was killed when an argument with an unindentified individual in a country store became violent and he was struck on the head with a "stick of stove-wood". John Morris's father possibly came to the U.S. from Scotland or England. His occupation was listed as "Farmer" in the 1860 and 1870 Census of Riley Township, Yell, AR. On 30 May 1869 when Nancy Jane was 20, she married John Alexander WALKER, son of Thomas H. WALKER & Malissa DICEY, in Danville, Yell, Arkansas. Born on 9 Nov 1845 in Gibson, Tennessee. John Alexander died in Havana, Yell, Arkansas on 14 Nov 1918, he was 73.

Newspaper Abstracts 1875-1879 P 133 - was a Juror on the August grand jury July 27, 1877 Is listed on the Riley, Yell, Arkansas Tax List, Sep 22/23, 1868 List of voters Riley Precinct, Sept 26, 1870 List of voters Riley Precinct, Sept. 19, 1872. John fought for the Union Army as a Pvt. during the Civil War , joining at Little Rock, Ar, 3rd Cav Co H between December 31 , 1863-June 30, 1865. He was honorably discharged at Louisburg , Ar. He applied for a pension on 5/8/1902 in Boonville, Ar. In claim number 19801 between 1871-1880 the claim was "barred" by the Southern Claims Commission Dir. A copy of a questionaire from the Dept. of the Interior dated April 17, 1915 , and reflects he did draw a pension. Also a Cert. 366654 dated August, 1898 states he was drawing a pension on that date. The pension record shows he was 5'8" tall, light complexion, blue eyes and light hair; that his occupation was a farmer; that his place of residence since leaving the service was Havana, Ar. His service record shows he was on duty on the steamer "Alamo." Source - file from Nana Cornwell. In Arkansas Damned Yankees, An Index to Union Soldiers in Arkansas Regiments, reflects "John A. Walker, 3 Ark Cav Pvt/Pvt 31 Dec 1863, Yell Co, age 18, Gibson Co, Tenn, Co H" In Martha Swaim Ornsbey James pension application he states that he was in the same company with William. same source. John and Nancy dedicated a "Walker Cemetery" on their farm in Havana, Ark for the burial of Walkers and their families. Family legend states; however, that others were buried there when they had no place to be buried

In 1884 when Frances Ann was 32, she married Marion Francis JESTICE. Born in Aug 1833 in Georgia. Marion Francis died in Yell County, AR on 20 Apr 1907, he was 73.

1880 Census Riley Township, Yell County, AR list's Francis M. Justice age 46 born in Georgia with wife Mary age 26 and six children: age's 1-18 years. According to this Census, Mary was his second wife.

Research: Marion Francis served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He enlisted as a Private on May 1, 1862 Company B., 38th Infantry Regiment. Mustered out on the 20th of April, 1865. Absent on 14 Sep 1864 as he contracted the Measles and lost his eyesight as a result of the illness. Special Service in Disabled Calvalry. Was Honorably discharged due to loss of eyesight. He was awarded $50.00 a month on July 8, 1901 pension.
