"Brighton Gazette and Lewes Observer" of 19 May 1825 had a full report on a theft and subsequent receiving of two saws. A boy named Toye and another biy named Tullipp were involved in the thft and Ann Spindler in the receiving knowing the saws to be stolen. The prisoners were committed for trial, but the boy Toye "who is only about 13 years of age and very little" will be admitted as King's Evidence.
In the issue of 21 July 1825:-
Ann Spindler fro feloniously receiving two saws knowing them to be stolen - Thomas Johnson and Joseph Johnson, charged withstealing an ash planki - and William Tullitt ; for stealing a saw; were severally tried and acquitted. William Toye; concerned with Wiliam Tullitt in stealing of a saw; was admitted as evidence for the Crown."
Transported to Australia for theft of 9 bottles of gin and other articles worth £3 from a Mrs Sarah Tidswell at Brighthelmstone in 1829 with a Henry HOLDEN. Sentenced to death, and by exercis of the Royal Mercy and Compassion reduced to being transported beyond the Seas for the term of their natural lives.
Arrived in Australia on the "Lady Faversham" 3rd April 1830.
Complexion freckled and fair hair. Height 5' 1''. Hazel eyes. Tattoed with mermaid , WT and anchor on right arm. WT and anchor on left arm. Anchor between left thumb and finger. Occupation was shown as a bricklayer.
Sent to Norfolk Island as part of "public works". No records subsequently found and therefore assumed that he died in Australia perhaps under an assumed name.
