On my mother's side, we have traced a line of descent from James II, King of Scots, who died in 1460. The Romanian royal family is a branch of the German Princely House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, which traces its genealogy back to King James II through many different lines of descent. Here is a comparison of our descent from James II with one of the Hohenzollern descents from James II, showing that I am an 18th cousin of the late King Mihai of Romania, last reigning monarch of the Romanians.
