Project Mission

This is a DNA Surname Project for the Coil-Coile-Coyle-Koile-Kile-Kyle-Kiel-Keil-Keeley-families.  The intent is to use DNA Y-Chromosome testing to help identify major family branches and the migrations from the early colonial period westward and hopefully, back to European lines.  Below is the chart of our current participants.  Each participant is grouped according to matching DNA.  Several of our participants do not have another line represented other than their own, which indicates many different progenitors for the surnames.

The chart compares DNA matches within our group of participants.  The color groups are sorted according to haplogroup.  Within the haplogrouping men who do not match with our current participants will be separated by a line space within the same haplogroup.  The participants shown without line spacing have a match with a MRCM (most recent common ancestor.)

The header marker numbers in RED are markers DNA is found to mutate more quickly.  It is common to find one or possibly two mutations within the same family in the red numbered markers. (385a, 385b, 449, 464a, 464b, 464c and 464d.)  The black numbered markers are more stable and therefore do not mutate readily.  When comparing 12, 25 or 37 marker results you will find the male DNA remains consistent from generation to generation, stemming from the same progenitor.  Once a marker has mutated the mutation is often passed on from the male to his descendants.  However, the black numbered DNA markers are much less likely to change from generation to generation. You can see—we have several different families represented in this project.
