Fitchett family information prior to Joseph (born circa 1736) is family lore and has not yet been documented.
Joseph deFitchett (#1) arrived in New Amsterdam circa 1623 on the third ship to arrive with settlers. He was born in Wallonia circa 1600 of Huguenot descent.
James (son of #1) married Margriet Bronk (Bronck) daughter of Jonas, a wealthy settler of Manhattan. Jonas died in 1643. The Bronx is named after him.
Joseph (grandson of #1) wife is believed to be Cerise, of French and Oneida Indian ancestry.
