Henry Lawrence Bradford Kelley

 

HENRY LAWRENCE BRADFORD KELLEY, son of Amos Kelley and Sarah Evans, was born at Delhi, NY, 6 Apr 1827. He died at Warren Twp., Bremer Co., IA, 12 Jun 1893.

He married, at Royalton, VT, 5 May 1853, PHEBE MARIA NOTT, daughter of Simeon Nott and Harriet Childs. She was born at Barnard, VT, 31 Dec 1827 and died at Waverly, IA, 14 Oct 1902.

Henry was a sieve maker in his early years; later a farmer.

He and Phebe sold their house in Hopkinton for $650 to his brother Francis Carlos Kelley in a deed dated 16 Dec 1864.

Henry and his family moved between 1864 and 1866, with the families of his brother George and his sister Adelaide, to Iowa, where they settled first in Clayton County; then in Bremer County, near Waverly. George later moved on to Lee County, Texas. Mary and Adelaide and their families also lived in Bremer County for a time before moving to the Dakota Territory, where they settled in what is now Lincoln County, SD.

In the 1870 and 1880 censuses, he and his family were living in Warren Twp., Bremer County, IA, where he was described as a farmer.

He left a will, dated 8 May 1893, in which he left everything to his wife Phebe M. Kelley, and named her his executor. The list of assets (in addition to the farm, which consisted of 77 acres in Warren Township):

Sheffield, who was b. at LeRoy, MN, 2 Jul 1857; d. at Forest City, IA, 9 Sep 1942. He was a teacher and farmer.

2. ROBERT LAWRENCE KELLEY, b. at Hopkinton, NH, 14 Dec 1858; d. at Monroe, WA, 25 Oct 1933; m. at Leroy, MN, 18 Jun 1885, MARY JANE SHEFFIELD, daughter of Philander Crittenden Sheffield and Sarah Ann Bishop, who was b. at LeRoy, MN, 26 Oct 1862; d. at Monroe, WA, 14 Jul 1953.

3. MABEL NARCISSA KELLEY, b. at Hopkinton, NH, 15 Sep 1861; d. at Lynd, MN, 11 Nov 1940; m. at Waverly, IA, 16 Apr 1884, STEPHEN NICHOLSON, who was born at Danville, NY, 11 May 1854, son of William Nicholson and Hannah Briggs; d. at Lynd, MN, 18 Oct 1924.

4. AGNES MARIA KELLEY, b. at Hopkinton, NH, 28 Jun 1863; d. at Lynd, MN, 6 Aug 1936; m. at Warren Twp., Bremer Co., IA, 24 May 1888, FREDERICK DENNING NICHOLSON, who was b. at Belvidere, IL, 31 Mar 1860, son of William Nicholson and Hannah Briggs; d. at Lynd, MN, 4 Nov 1931.

5. HOWARD LINCOLN KELLEY, b. at Warren Twp., Bremer Co., IA, 24 Feb 1870; d. at Warren Twp., Bremer Co., IA, 16 Nov 1957; m. at Lafayette Twp., Bremer Co., IA, 23 May 1894, LINNIE SHAW, daughter of Newton Lawrence Shaw and Lucina Pettit of Waverly, IA. She was born at Lafayette Twp., Bremer Co., IA, 1 Oct 1873; d. at Waverly, IA, 23 Jul 1955. He was a mailman and farmer in Warren Twp., Bremer Co., IA. She was a telephone operator.
