WILL OF REBECCA GLASCO
Proved 23rd December 1847

This is the last Will and Testament of Rebecca GLASCO of Sandgate in the Parish of Cheriton in the County of Kent Widow of John GLASCO late a Surgeon on Half Pay of Her Majesty's Land Forces deceased I desire to be decently interred in the Parish of Cheriton at the discretion of my Executor I revoke all former testamentary documents by me at any time here before made I give devise and bequeath all and every my real and personal estate and all properly coming to me in expectancy and all my other property and effects of what nature or kind soever the same may be unto Stephen MACDONALD of Sandgate in the Parish of Cheriton a Lieutenant on half pay of Her Majesty's Land Forces To hold to and to the use of the said Stephen MACDONALD his heirs and assigns forever And I appoint the said Stephen MACDONDALD sole Executor of this my will In witness whereof I have to this my will set my hand and seal this fourteenth day of March One thousand eight hundred and thirty nine - Rebecca GLASCO - This will was produced and acknowledged by the before named Rebecca GLASCO to be her last will and testament the day and year above written in the presence of us Jno Jas BOND Sol. WILL OF STEPHEN GODDEN

In the Name of God Amen I Stephen GODDEN of Folkestone in the county of Kent fisherman being in good health of body and of sound perfect and disposing mind memory and understanding (God be praised thereof) do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in writing in manner and form following (that is to say) First and principally I recommend my soul to God and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executrix herein after named and as for all such worldly Estate as it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon me I dispose thereof as followeth inprincus(?) WILL OF STEPHEN GODDEN
Proved 7th July 1756

In the Name of God Amen I Stephen GODDEN the Elder of the Town of Folkestone in the County of Kent fisherman being aged but of sound and perfect mind and memory (praise be given to Almighty God for the same) and knowing and considering the uncertainty of this transitory life on Earth and being desirous to settle my worldly estate in order do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First and principally I commit my soul to Almighty God my Creator assuredly believing that I shall receive full pardon and free renuncion (?) of all my sins and be saved by the precious death and merits of my blessed Saviour and Redeemer Jesus Christ my body I commit to the earth from where it was taken to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named and ? such worldly estate as the Lord in mercy hath sent me my will and ? is that the same shall be employed and bestowed as hereafter in this my last Will and Testament is expresed And whereas I have surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the Manor of Folkestone by the hands and acceptance of his steward thereof all my copyhold tenament and hereditament with its appurtenances situate and being in the town of Folkestone aforesaid and wherein I now dwell to the use of such person or persons and for such estate or estates as I the said Stephen GODDEN in and by my last Will and Testament in writing under my hand and seal should and shall herein ? declare and appoint now I do hereby give and devise the rents and profits of my now dwelling house with the shop backside and appurtenances as now occupied by me unto my son Stephen GODDEN to hold the same until the said Stephen GODDEN his heirs and assigns I also give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah the wife of Stephen MARSH of the said town of Folkestone fisherman the sum of twenty pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain to be paid unto her or her surviving heirs by my Executor at or within six months next after my decease I also give and bequeath unto my other daughter Elizabeth wife of Robert CHALK the like sum of twenty pounds of like lawful money of Great Britain to be paid also to her or her surviving heirs by my said Executor at or within six calendar months after my decease as aforesaid likewise I give and bequeath unto Margaret VINE or her heirs the bed bedstead bolster blankets coverlet and hangings as it now stands and wherein she now lays also two pair good sheets all which bed bedstead bolster blankets coverlet and hangings and the two pair of sheets I require my Executor to deliver or cause delivered unto her the said Margaret VINE at or within one month after my decease without any manner of fraud or concealment whatever I likewise give and bequeath unto my said son Stephen GODDEN unto my daughter Sarah the wife of Stephen MARSH and unto my daughter Elizabeth the wife of Robert CHALK as abovesaid or to their surviving heirs all my ready money plate household furniture linen woollen and moveables of all kinds and every thing as wel unnamed as named that comes under the name or denomination of moveables (and not before given or bequeathed by me) to be as equally and justly divided between my said son Stephen GODDEN and my daughters Sarah and Elizabeth abovementioned or their surviving heirs so that each of my three children may have possess and enjoy as equal a share and dividend of such my moveable goods and effects as possible the same can or may be adjusted and divided after my decease and after all my just debts and funeral charges are paid and discharged and the probate of this my last Will and Testament is made out confirmed and ratified Lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint my said son Stephen GODDEN abovenamed to be whole and sole Executor of my last Will and Testament hereby requiring him to pay all my just debts and funeral charges ���������before the rest f my moveable goods and chattels be divided among the parties abovenamed and I hereby declare this only to be and contain my last Will and Testament contained on ne sheet of paper and revoking annulling and making void now all other wills by me heretofore made In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourteeth day of December in the twenty eighth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by Grace of God of Great Britain France and Scotland King Defender of the Faith and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty four Stephen GODDEN Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the abovenamed Stephen GODDEN to be his last Will and Testament I the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses in the presence of the Testator George BATEMAN Henry SPEARPOINT ( Mark) William HAMMOND

Proved 2nd November 1756

In the name of God Amen I John HAGUE the younger of the Town of Folkestone in the County of Kent shipwright being but weak in body but of sound and perfect mind memory and understanding (God be praised for the same) but considering the uncertainty of this life do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First and principally I commend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God my Creator hoping to obtain forgiveness of all my sins and offences and to inherit everlasting happiness in the Kingdom of Heaven and as to what worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me I give and devise unto my brother William HAGUE all those my two messuages or tenaments with the cove yard garden and appurtenances thereunto belonging situate in the town of Folkestone aforesaid at or near a certain place called Eastbrook in and now or late in the several tenures or occupation of John FAGG and Robert BAKER or their assigns and also all that my full undivided moiety or half part the whole unto two equal parts to be divided of and in all that messuages or tenaments wherein I now dwell with the ��.. outhouses edifices buildings yards and garden thereunto with their and every their appurtenances and also afraid (?) in all those five stables situate in Folkestone aforesaid and now or late in the several tenures or occupations of my ? ? HAGUE Kennett SPICER without pay and two of which are now untenanted but were late in the occupations of Thomas HOYLE and Thomas GOLDER or their assigns to hold the same until my said brother William HAGUE his heirs and assigns for ever and all the rest and residue of my real and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kind so ever not hereunto before disposed of after all my just debts and espenses the charges of proving this my last Will and Testament and other lundent (?) charges shall be first fully paid and satisfied thereoutof I give devise and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my said brother William HAGUE his Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever and I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said brother William HAGUE and my brother in law Macy (?) In the Name of God Amen I Adam HAMMOND of the Parish of Alkham of the County of Kent Yeoman being not in good health but of sound and disposing mind and memory for which I bless God do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner following (that is to say) First I will that all such debts I shall justly owe at the time of my death be fully paid and satisfied and I do hereby charge all my real and personal estate with payment thereof also I give and devise unto my wife Agnes HAMMOND and her heirs all that my messuages or tenaments with the Barn Stable Orchard and four hundred acres of land more or less arable pasture and wood with the appurtenances situate lying or being at a certain place called Upton in the parish of Alkham aforesaid in the Bottom there or elsewhere and now in my own occupation and also all other my real estate whatsoever also I give and bequeath to her my wife her Executors Administrators and Assigns all my goods and chattels ready money stock crop debts effects and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever and do nominate her my said wife to be the Exectrix of this my last Will and Testament but in case my said wife shall marry after my decease then I give devise and bequeath all my real and personal estate herein before given to her unto such of my children shall be living at the time of such her marriage again his and her and their heirs executors administrators and assigns equally to be divided between them and I do hereby revoke all other wills by me made and do publish and declare this only to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the sixteenth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty nine Adam HAMMOND his mark Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said Adam HAMMOND the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who subscribe our names as witnesses hereunto in the presence Richard THOMAS John HAMMOND William LANE

To daugher in law Mary GITTENS widow of Thomas GITTENS late of Folkestone mariner �100, a plain gold ring, a silver tablespoon marked T H. To Thomas SPEARPOINT son of the said Elizabeth SPEARPOINT �50 and my silver pint mug. To Joseph SLADEN of Folkestone esq and Joseph SLADEN esq his son my executor �300 and in 3 months to invest same, in their names, in ........................... bank and to pay all interest to my nephew William MAKING of Folkstone mariner during his lif and after his life to transfer to his children and then if no children survive to my niece Elizabeth HALL wife of Richard HALL of Folkestone mariner and if she should die to her children. My half part or share and all my parts and shares freehold messuage or tenement in Fenchurch Street (else Fancy Street) in the occupation of Mary BAKER widow to William MAKING and his heirs. To William MAKING aforesaid six damask napkins and tablecloth, three china bowls, feather bed and a chest. Also �300 in trust and to pay dividends to Richard HALL and Elizabeth his wife and then to their children. Also to the said Elizabeth HALL my shoemaker's shop and two tenements over the wash house in Queen Street, Folkestone in the occupation of the said Richard HALL, William JORDAN, William SPICER and John HEYDON and her heirs forever. To Ann HALL daughter of the said Elizabeth HALL my freehold property in Back Street in my own occupation and if she dies then to her mother. WILL OF THOMAS HAWKES

This is the last will and testament of me Thomas HAWKES of the Town of Folkestone in the County of Kent, Sailmaker, ordained published and declared the first day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy one. First I desire I may be decently and privately buried by and at the discretion of my Executrix hereafter named. Also I give and bequeath my fire grates unto my daughter Hannah (wife of William JOHNCOCK) to her own use and desire, no dispute may be made for the same.

Also I give and bequeath my clock to my daughter Mary (wife of Robert REEVES) to her own use. Also I give and bequeath all and every my Messouages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments whatsoever and wheresoever and all and every the rest and residue or my ready money and securities for money, plate, linen, woollen, household goods and implements of household do*** goods, chattels and personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever which shall be due, owing, payable or belonging unto me at the time of my decease (my debts and funeral expenses being first paid and satisfied) unto my five children, Thomas HAWKES, the said Mary wife of the said Robert REEVES, Michael HAWKES, Sarah wife of Andrew READ and the said Hannah wife of the said William JOHNCOCK, their heirs, executors and assignees for ever, equally to be divided between them share and share alike as tenants in common and not as jointenants, and I so hereby make and appoint the said Hannah JOHNCOCK sole executrix of this my said last will and testament.

In witness thereof I, the said Thomas HAWKES the testator, have hereunto set my hand and seal dated the day and year first above written.

In the Name of God Amen I John LAWS the Elder of the Parish of Folkestone in the County of Kent Yeoman being in good health and of sound and perfect mind memory and understanding God be praised for the same but being mindful of the uncertainty of this transitory life do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First and principally I commend my soul to Almighty God my Heavenly Father hoping and assuredly trusting to obtain mercy and forgiveness of all my sins and offenses and to inherit everlasting life by and through the alone(?) merits and mediations of my Ever Blessed Saviour and Redeemer Jesus Christ and my body I commit to the earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named and as touching with worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me I give devise and bequeath unto my only daughter Ann now wife of Kingsford PILCHER of the parish of Cheriton in the said County of Kent Yeoman the sum of fifty pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to her by my Executor herein after named in manner following (that is to say) twenty five pounds part thereof within twelve months next after my decease and the remaining twenty five pounds within two years next after my decease Item I give and bequeath unto my only son Thomas LAWS all and every my goods chattels household stuff stock crop corn cattle husbandry cackling(?) mortgages bonds bills notes ready monies plate linen rings debts credits and all other my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kind so ever not herein before by me given or bequeathed to hold the same unto my said son Thomas LAWS his heirs or administrators and assigns for ever He and they paying out thereof all the just debts that I shall owe at the time of my decease the above said legacie of fifty pounds my funeral expenses and the charges of proving this my last Will and Testament Item I do hereby nominate and appoint my said son Thomas LAWS whole and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby revoke and make void all former and other wills by me heretofore made and do declare this to be and contain my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said John LAWS the Elder the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament contained in this one sheet f paper set and annexed my hand and seal dated this twenty third day of October in the twentieth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth and the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty six The mark of John LAWS Snr Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said John LAWS the Elder the Testator for and to be and contain his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in the presence of the said Testator and at his request have subscribed our names hereunto as witnesses Sarah SLODDEN Richard SLODDEN

WILL OF THOMAS LAWS
Proved 18th November 1847

This is the last Will and Testament of me Thomas LAWS of Dane in the parish of Folkestone in the county of Kent Yeoman in manner following I appoint John HOGBEN of Orpinge in the said County Farmer and Henry FINCH of Paddlesworth in the said County Blacksmith Executors of this my will I give devise and bequeath unto the said John HOGBEN and Henry FINCH all my real and personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever To hold the same unto and to the use of the said and to the use of the said John HOGBEN and Henry FINCH their heirs executors administrators and assigns Upon trust immediately after my decease to sell and dispose of my said real and personal Estate either by Public Auction or Private Contract as they in their discretion shall think proper to any persons willing to become the purchaser or purchasers thereof for such price or prices as my said Trustees or the Survivor of them his heirs executors administrators or assigns shall thik reasonable And for promoting such sales do and shall enter into and execute all such contracts conveyances assignments acts and deeds to my said Trustees or the Survivor of them his heirs executors administrators or assigns shall seem proper And the money arising from such sale or sales of my said real and personal Estates together with the money which I may be possessed of at the time of my decease I direct my said Trustess ( after payment thereout of my Debts whether on Mortgage or otherwise funeral and testamentary expenses) to divide the same into eight equal parts or shares and to pay and distribute the same as follows ( that is to say) one eighth part or share of the said trust monies unto my son Thomas LAWS his executors administrators and assigns One other eighth part thereof unto my son William LAWS his executors administrators and assigns One other eighth part or share thereof unto my son Edward LAWS his executors administrators and assigns One other eighth part thereof unto my son Richard LAWS his executors administrators and assigns One other eighth part or shae thereof unto my daughter Ann HOBDAY Widow her executors administrators and assigns One other eighth part or share unto the two children of my deceased son Leonard LAWS share and share alike and their respective executors administrators and assigns One other eighth part or share thereof to the children of my deceased daughter Mary BAYLY equally to be divided between them and to their several and respective executors administrators and assigns And the remaining One eighth part or share unto Ann CASTLE Widow who now resides with me and to her executors administrators and assigns And I do hereby declare that the receipt or receipts in writing of my said Trustees or the survivor of them his heirs executors administrators and assigns for any sum or sums of Money payable to them or him under this my will shall be sufficient discharge for the same respectively or so much thereof as in such receipts shall be acknowledged to be received And that the person or persons to whom the same shall be given his heirs or their heirs executors administrators and assigns shall not afterwards be answerable or accountable for any loss misapplication or nonapplication of such purchase monies or any part thereof And I do hereby revoke all former wills In witness whereof I have to this my last will and testament contained in two sheets of paper set and put my hand and seal to wit my hand to the preceeding sheet and my hand and seal to this second and last sheet and my seal at the top where the said sheets are affixed together this fifith day of November in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and thirty three - The mark and Seal of Thomas LAWS - Signed sealed published and declared by the said Testator Thomas LAWS as and for his last will and Testament in the presence of us who at his request in his presence and in the prsence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses John HOGBEN George CASTLE J O STONE

WILL OF MARY LEMON
Proved 8th December 1847

This is the last Will and Testament of me Mary LEMON of Sandgate within the liberty of the town of Folkestone in the county of Kent Widow and Relict of George LEMON deceased I desire to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named I give devise and bequeath unto John QUESTED of Sandgate aforesaid in the Parish of Cheriton Baker All and every my real Estate whatsoever and wheresoever as wll freehold as copyhold together with all my household furniture plate linen and china Moneys and Securities for Money and all other my personal Estate of what nature or kind soever To hold all the same unto the said John QUESTED his heirs executors administrators and assigns upon trust as soon as conveniently can be after my decease to sell and dispose of my said real estate either together or in parcels and either by public auction or private contract and to convey surrender and assure the same unto the Purchaser orPurchasers thereof or as he she or they shall direct and to receive the Moneys arising from the sale or sales thereof and to give effectual discharges for the same exonerating the Purchaser or Purchasers thereof from all liability in respect of the application thereof and upon further trust to convert into Money such parts of my Personal Estate as shall not consist of moneys and securities for money And it is my will and I declare that the said John QUESTED his heirs executors administrators and assigns shall stand possessed of the said moneys to arise from the sale of my said real and personal estate and of the moneys to which I shall be entitled to at the time of my decease Upon trust to pay and discharge all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses and also the costs and expenses or carrying the trusts of this my will into execution And after payment thereof Upon trust to divide the residue of such moneys into four equal parts or shares and to dispose thereof as follows (that is to say) As to one fourth part or share thereof In trust to pay the same to Elizabeth QUESTED the wife of the said John QUESTED and to her executors or administrators One other fourth part or share thereof I give to Elizabeth VALYER the wife of Michael VALYER of Sandgate aforesaid Bach (sic?) Proprietor and to her executors or administrators One other fourth part or share thereof I give to Henry BUTCHER of the Town of Folkestone aforesaid Schoolmaster and to his executors or administrators And the remaining fourth part or share I give unto and amongst all and every the child and children of Susannah TURNER deceased the late wife of Stephen TURNER share and share alike and in case of the death of either or any of them the children of the said Susannah TURNER before me without issue Then I give the part and share or parts and shares of him or them so dying unto the Survivors or Survivor of them their or his executor or administrator And I declare that the receipt of receipts in writing of the said John QUESTED his heirs executors administrators or assigns shall from time to time be a good and sufficient discharge to the Purchaser or Purchasers of all or any part of my said real and personal Estate for the so much money as shall therein be acknowledged to be received And I do hereby nominate and appoint the said John QUESTED sole executor of this my will In witness whereof I the said Mary LEMON have to this my last will and testament contained in two sheets of paper set my hand this ninth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty five - The mark X of Mary LEMON - Signed by the above named Mary LEMON the testator in the presence of us who were present at the same time and attested and ascribed the same in the presence of each other and the Testatrix - James LUCAS of Sandgate Innholder - Geo.
